hi all,

i havn't been around for some days because my computer was down.
during that time many things happened, some of them bad, more of them
good. let's forget about the bad stuff and come to the good:
my neuro changed my medication. i'm off keppra now and feeling great
:-))). it is, as if a veil has been taken from my mind.
i'm on lamictal now, but it will take some weeks until it is increased to
the therapeutical level. we'll see.
i havn't had a GM in a week. that's a good start, insn't it?

That's OK.  Ask if you don't know what a note is about.  You'll find soon
enough though that a lot of us will use Frequently used abbreviations to
shorten typing and messages.   I don't know if Howdy Dave or any of the
sites include the Ep. related ones anywhere.
A Bunch (not all) include C.P. (Complex Partial seizure),  TLE (Temporal
Lobe Epilepsy) -- using included on newer sites within C.P.,  S.P.  (Simple
Partial),  GM you know now,  EFA (Ep. Foundation of America), then often on
a Post some of us will try use a name first (Tegretol) then later if it's
repeated lots, might shorten to one of our own abbrevs. like Teg.  etc.
(oh,  CR = Controlled Release, XR = Extended Release while I think of it).
EEG, CAT, CT etc. are the scan types used to diagnose seizures among other
things wrt. the brain.  etc. ttfn :->  /G.

Well, there are a couple of more abbrevs I do not see that often in this
newsgroup; e.g.:

ac = ante cibum => take before meals
bid = bis in due => take twice a day
gtt = guttae => drops
pc= post cibum => take after meals
po = per os => take by mouth

etc.

It is not that I learned Latin or something.

When I got hospitalised they wanted to give me some of
my meds par rectum but I was conscious enough to refuse
and take them by mouth.

And now I play my own doctor. I don't take any and
I'm still seizure free :-) I know it'll be a long time
before I can say I'm truly no longer epileptic, but
it's nice to be 15 days on the way.

well yeah, tegretol i'm taking as well (1200mg/day).
my neuro was quite perplex, that i didn`t have any side effects from the
tegretol (i started with this high dose), but not getting along with
keppra at all. maybe i'm a freak of nature ;-).
i may be mistaken - but in some cases they don't use tegretol with
absences because it might make them worse. better ask your doc, i'm not an
expert.

That looks like a **Large Dose, reason he might be perplexed.  Although
others might be on that high too.  I was only ever at 2x 400mg Tegretol CR
(Controlled Release),  but when a Newer Second med. was added  my Neuro
phased out the Night dose of the Tegretol so it's only taken in AM now.  (My
second med. is *not Keppra if above is suggesting you were taking Both
Tegretol And Keppra ??  or did the Keppra Replace the Tegretol?)

You might know if it was already posted to you, but in case you don't  --
Tegretol behaves erratically with Alcohol  (it has a Non-linear Footprint in
the Medical terms),  and is also compromised by Grapefruit Juice -- one of
the acids that's not in other juices, interferes with it's operation.
Hmmm, In College,  **before E.  I often had a non-linear footprint, but then
Morning came, and I found my shoes and went to class....... G./

I should have been clearer with my meds... (these are daily doses btw) I
take 350mgs Lamictal, 1700mgs of Epilim and 200mgs of tegretol (not the
controlled release one either) I also get really bad migraine headaches when
i have bad seizure periods like last weekend ... didnt clear up till this
afternoon ... really sucks ...

It originated in Sydney Australia, where the locals decided to peel a banana
and remove the inside matter. This they promptly scoffed in a manner
unbefitting a civilised nation's people. They then exclaimed "Strewth mate!!
Look Sheila, thees banana skeen ees reelly terreefec!!"
Our Australian neighbours proceeded to fold the banana skin back into shape,
fixing it together with bailing twine and super glue. Then they made a small
hole at each end and found that if they blew into the end of it and farted
at the same time, it made quite a passable musical instrument.

Hugs to my friends across the ditch!!  :-)  :-)

Darryl.
