We've just come back from seeing the children's paediatrician  and we've
been told officially that my daughter is no longer epileptic :)))))))))))))

She had an EEG done about 2 weeks ago and I thought it was looking good.
Now we've had the confirmation :)))))))))  We are over the moon about it,
especially as she's also been declared no longer to be asthmatic either
:))))))))

Now all we have to do is slow her down <BG>  Anyone got a spare anchor and
chain???  :))))

Good for you and your daughter :-) Make sure she does not start "living on
the edge" if you know what I mean as you still have to be very carefull with
this.

She's only 9 so "living on the edge" won't be a problem at the moment *but*
she wants to be a Harrier pilot and also fly helicopters!!!!  lolol

I hope she'll have plenty of time to make the necessary adjustments in her
life before she starts taking to the skies :))

We're fairly certain that what caused her fits was stress as a result of a
bitter divorce and custody battle :((  Mercifully we no longer see the
cause of the problems.

I still want to fly a Boeing 747 :-)

Enjoy live for now and make sure she really understands what epilepsy is
when she is old enough to hunt for boys, going to party where everyone
drinks alcohol, etc. Don't let her make the same mistake I made -despite
many warnings I received from my parents (I did not tell them so they did
not know).

And why not??  You could still do so albeit as a co-pilot :))

She understands epilepsy pretty well already because her brother has been
epileptic from birth so she's grown up with it.  He's 2.5 years older than
her.  Her main concern, after she was diagnosed, was that she didn't want
to have fits/seizures like her brother's.  He usually has grand mal
fits/seizures.  Hers were absence seizures.

We will try to make sure she doesn't make the mistakes we did - but when
did children *ever* listen to their parents?? <BG>  Nor to make the mistake
of taking unnecessary risks, like with alcohol no matter what the pressure
from her peers to be a sheep.

I rather suspect that a lot of young adults never tell their parents half
the things they get up to :))  I know I didn't ;))

Okay, okay, I surrender :-)

The dilemma for you as a parent will be what you will allow and what you
won't allow her to do, etc. but hey man, enjoy the good news (because it is
really good news!) and hopefully your son will get the proper treatment as
well without too many side effects, etc.

Take care.

We'll do the best we can for her :))

My son is altogether a different case :((

lolol

Nowt that I know of - in fact, the best lamb in the world comes from New
Zealand; not sure the sheep/lambs would necessarily agree with that though

Yeah, dammit. The best of our lamb gets sent overseas to you lot.
We just get the scraps.  ;-)

Isn't that always the way though ?? The best of what we produce goes
abroad.  Come to think of it - just what *do* we produce?? ;))

Congratulations!

I remember when my older brother was having fits when he was 13 and he only
had a few gran mal seizures and then after extensive testing he was told he
grew out of the epileptic fits... he was over the moon ... so i know how
relieved you must be ... (even though i still have epilepsy ...)

Thanks :))

You should have seen the smile on my daughter's face :))  Ear to ear
doesn't begin to describe it :))  She was jumping up and down too :))

There was a suspicion last year that she was OK but they weren't sure if it
was just the medication controlling the fits/seizures or if she was clear.
Her paediatrician left the medication the same, which effectively reduced
it because she'd grown and put on a bit of weight.  We reduced it further
by only giving it to her in the mornings, then in the hassle of getting her
off to school, it would get forgotten altogether.

She's been without medication since last October and since then she's taken
2 dance exams, a ballet exam, 2 karate exams plus the normal end of year
exams, passed all of them and didn't have a fit/seizure once.

We'll still need to keep an eye on her though, as Marco says, because they
*could* start again if she gets in a really stressful/tense situation
again.

I'm really pleased for your brother too.

You and your brother sound like my daughter and her brother.  One clear,
one unfortunately not :((
