I was just at an appointment with my neurologist on Wednesday.  I had a
bunch of tests run in April, but he doesn't have the results yet.  But
he did tell me if they turned out like the ones I had run in December,
then he would want to skip all medications and have me get a VNS.

I kind-of wanted some opinions on this.  Also, anyone in the U.S. have
to get one?  I would like to know a few basics on how complicated it is
and how long the procedure takes even after surgery.  I have read sites,
but I would like to get someone's first-hand experience.

Hi Dawn,
As my understanding goes, you don't just stop the meds when you get a VNS.
The VNS is designed to be used in conjunction with medications, rather than
instead of them. It sounds like your neuro may not realise this....but I may
have it wrong of course.

Though I understand some people get complete control with just the
VNS.........others please correct me if I'm wrong.

I personally don't have one, but I'm wanting to get one as nothing else has
worked for me, though they aren't done here in New Zealand. Currently
looking at maybe going to Australia and getting it done as my wife is from
Sydney and I can get it on her medical cover I think.
Cheers,
Darryl.
