Has anyone had any experience with lamictal? As some of you know I am
on depakote and tegretol. I have heard some very positive things about
lamictal and am wondering if anyone has switched from
tegretol/depakote combo to this drug. If so, I'd be interested in
hearing your experiences.

Thanks
Greg

g'day greg
i'm currently taking a combo of tegretol and lamictal and have been for
about three years. i switched to lamictal after topomax started to severely
effect my memory and gave me bad depression. i found as soon as i started
taking lamictal my depression disappeared and my memory was as good if not
better than it ever had been. apparently lamictal can cause a life
threatening rash but when the neurologist first out me on it he gave me a
very tiny dose and he told me to call him immediately if a rash started to
appear. i have found that since i started to take the combination of
lamictal and tegretol that i have had almost no epileptic activity apart
from the odd aura once every couple of months. this is pretty good
considering i was having auras several times daily and complex partials
several times a week. lamictal has been great for me but don't take me as
the yardstick 'cause everyone is different and it may work differently for
you.        good luck!

I felt great on Lamictal,  the depression caused by the
many other drung we tried went away.  But I was one
of the few that had a rash months later and had to stop
Lamictal.  I wish I could take them!

Hi Greg.

I recently started taking lamictal but unforutnately I am not having good
control.  I took it because it is a safe drug for pregnancy but for me it
doesn't work.  However depakote had controlled my seizures for 14yrs and
happens to be the worst drug for pregnancy.  I hope you have better luck
than I have

Hi Greg,  We started my son on Lamictal in addition to the Topomax he takes.
After 9 months of adjusting we are happy to report a Normal EEG for the
first time since he was diagnosed with E.  Once school is out we're going to
wean him off Topomax and see if mono-therapy with only Lamictal will be
sufficient to maintain control.  The only thing I am aware of with Lamictal
is the rash that can occur when starting with L.  My son's Neuro took the
build up period even slower than what the MFR recommended to help his body
adjust and to avoid the rash.  Once through the danger period you're off and
running.  We have very high hopes for Lamictal long term....time will tell I
suppose!

Best wishes!  God Bless

Hi All,

I believe I may have started this post or posted one by the same
subject.  My wife is on the verge of switching from Depakote to
Limictal.  She's been on it for 15 years or so and lately she's
experiencing an increase in petite mal seizures.  Her neuro wants her to
make the switch.  We are very concerned about the transition.  She's a
stay at home Mom with our 4 year old daughter.  Our two sons, 13 & 10
are at school all day.

We are considering to coincide the transition with perhaps my vacation
from work just so that I'd be around in case.  We're very unsure.
Reading the posts about it doesn't give me much hope.  I wouldn't dare
forward them to her.  It's all a roll of the dice I think.  It will
either work, not work or work to some degree.  That's what we're scared
of finding out.

Lou
