Hi, I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with intestinal or colon
cleansing, which is accomplished by taking psyllium husks and lots of water,
two or three times per day, for up to 12 weeks. Bentonite clay is sometimes
added to this.
My husband is really into this right now and he's urging me to try it, but
I'm worried that it could interfere with my Tegretol, or make my epilepsy
worse for some other reason.
Any thoughts or experiences?
TIA

Well done.  Speak to your Pharmacist or check efa.org site.  My pharmacist
told me to show her any 'stomach cleaner outers' (Pink One in Canada for
one) if I ever planned to take any, since as well as cleaning out the
stomach etc., they also would clean out the medicinal value of the Tegretol
and Frisium (and originally Dilantin?) that I was using.

I don't (secondarily) understand what he thought the 'cleansing' would
do for you (or him) , if it were to defeat the Tegretol, if your Control is
as *good as mine is....  G./

The theory is that our intestines get packed up with toxins from our diet
and/or drugs that do not get properly eliminated, and that this causes
numerous health problems and reduces general vitality. The "cleanse" is
meant to flush them all out. Proponents of this theory recommend doing it
once a year - the "spring cleanse".
My epilepsy is not 100% controlled. I still get a CP about once a month or
so.

Hello !

I have done it several times in my life, it really feels good. But I must
remind you to take care of your eating also, cleansing is not the solution
to everything, even if sometimes and to somebody it might feel like it. It's
very effective cleansing system, but also it takes your energy level down,
and that's a problem for many epileptics. Your system cleans itself in the
morning, and after that you should get some energy to your body, normally in
order to feel good. Depending also whether you are a so called carbohydrate
or protein type you might not do well on fasting, or without food.
Anyhow cleansing the body with colon clansing is very good for example for
people suffering from constipation, when not used too often.
You should just listen to yourself, we are all different, there are no 2
persons alike.

Oh, the Victorians did it far more often than that.

But they didn't live as long as we do ...
