I would like to try this med for a few days to see if I can deal with the side
effects. I don't have prescription insurance and my dr doesn't have any free
samples. Anyone have any extras that I could try? Greatly appreciated.

It is against the law to do what you are asking with a control substance, and
VERY ill advised, YOU ARE NEVER supposed to take another persons prescibed
medication no matter what its for. Please I beg, dont even attempt this,
instead, find out the drug company who makes it, go to their website and see if
that drug is eligible for patient assistance and what you have to do to get it.
advice, dont ever ask anyone in this group about buying or loaning medicine,
they wont be amused with you

Well said.  I was surprised too, as I've never seen anyone try get
'samples' here (since 1997). With so many potential side effects, and
different seizure types, Epilepsy is not something we should tinker with,
without a Doctor supervising the treatment.  It's not (usually) like
treating a cold or sore throat.
But I had forgotten too about the potential for Patient Assistance
Programs that might have been able to help.   / G.

Perhaps he is being misunderstood a bit. The subject header says "For Sale", so
he is offering to pay and it's not a long-term deal since he said:
>I would like to try this med for a few days to see if I can deal with the

So he may not be looking for Patient Assistance.

I don't see why the "insurance" was mentioned when he is willing to pay. Why
doesn't he just have the doctor write a very small prescription. Thta's one
other thing as he didn't mention size such as 100mg, 400mg, 600mg ??

I willl say, though, that it is a very expensive drug!

Probably because it's fairly new? (Usually the Pharmacy charge is a flat
fee per Bottle whether it's 10 pills or 100. But I'd still rather see him go
through normal channels, at least so far a safety and appropriate use went.)
I didn't have experience with it (other than seeing people post about
using it or side effects here).   I just know that some (like my Tegretol
and Frisium) take several weeks to build to a target dose (set and
supervised by the Dr.), and then can produce 'recoil seizures' or whatever
the Medical term is, from Prompt Stopping of it.  So a 'short trial' could
be potentially dangerous, if done on our own.  If done outside of the Dr's.
supervision, most (Life) insurance policies would likely become void, if it
has potential serious side effects.
I don't know if the same applies to the Med. type he suggested, wrt
prompt stopping after trying it a short time.  Either Barb's (excellent)
suggestion With his Dr. or a short trial (with the Dr.) might get him 1-2
week's supply Direct from the Doctor if the Dr. had some samples, or some
way to give him a trial period on it.  G./

Like gaross said, it's probably not a good idea to start taking them and then
abruptly stop because of the possibility of rebound seizures, which might end up
being worse or more frequent than what you experience now.  Also, with some of
these medications you have to take them longer than just a few days to see any
results.

Since it sounds like you have a prescription but don't have the money to get it
filled, you could try a few community assistance programs (like United Way) or
there might be a free drug program from the manufacturer.  Some clinics and
hospitals, especially the bigger facilities, have employees who work with patients
to help them find either free meds or programs available to pay for the
prescriptions (they would know what programs are available in your community or
region).  Another thing is you've got to tell your doctor you can't afford this
medication.  He might be able to switch you to a less costly medication.

My question would be, do you actually suffer from epilepsy?
You obviously know that neurontin is a drug used to treat seizures, but is
this a condition from which you suffer, or do you simply feel that coming to
this newsgroup would be an easy way to get your hands on some prescription
drugs to take simply for a good buzz?
No offence intended, but it doesn't sound like the type of request the
average responsible minded person would make.

Neurontin gives you a buzz?

I take it and it's never given me a buzz.

If he's trying to get meds with "buzzes" and happy side effects, this is so
the wrong place to be.

Anyone here on meds with good side effects?

HA! Don't we wish! I suppose phenobarbitol might give a buzz to a healthy
person who took enough - but if you consider that a "good" feeling you're
probably not as healthy as you think...

I'm currently starting to take neurontin....adjusting dose - trying to find
optimum level, etc.
I spend a lot of my time buzzing cos the levels are not currently right. I'm
spinning, unsteady, shaky, slurred speach, wobbly head, unsteady eyesight.
Maybe some people enjoy that kind of thing. Personally I really DON'T!!

I have 500x 250mg of Neurontin (Gabapentin) left over from my son.
Respond to my email.

Sue,
You obviously aren't too concerned with the legalities of selling
prescription medications......to someone who, for all we know, may not even
have epilepsy!!!

Good luck to you if something should happen to this person from taking your
son's drugs as I'm sure the authorities won't look too kindly on the
supplier of prescription medications to someone who's name is not on the
bottle.

Darryl.

How utterly irresponsible of you!!

Given the side effects that another poster has mentioned, if the OP
suffered these s/he could very easily have a similar reaction which could
prove fatal.

There's no way of knowing if the OP does have epilepsy and if s/he does
then there must be a good reason why his/her doctor isn't prescribing it.
That reason could include an adverse reaction due to other
conditions/medications.

My son had 3 bottles of Orlept left over after it was discovered it
actually caused him to have fits.  I took them to the local pharmacy to
have them destroyed. I suggest you get your son's excess medication
destroyed at your local pharmacy as well.
