Hi there, I am new to this newsgroup so please go easy on me. I wonder if
there is anyone out there who has had the same experience that I had. At 33
I had never had a seizure or any indication that there may be anything
wrong. Within 24 hours of giving birth to my 2nd child I had my first
seizure. I was soon diagnosed with epilepsy and now need to be on
medication for the rest of my life. I have never had another seizure (3
years), the one I did have was in my sleep. I would love to hear of anyone
who has had a similar experience.

Hi Tricia
Welcome to the group. We're a friendly bunch and go easy on everyone. :-)
I'm not a doctor, but you sound very much as if you were misdiagnosed. There are
causes for seizures other than epilepsy and fevers are just one of the other
possible causes. If you have only had one seizure in your whole life and that
was in your sleep after the childbirth circumstances you describe, then your
diagnosis doesn't sound right.
You need to see a different doctor!
Sorry I can't tell about a similar experience, but I'm a guy. :-)

Yes, I think it wouldn't be wasted. If the second opinion is the same as the
first then OK, if it isn't you'll probably be able to be weaned off the
medication. A life-time 'sentence' for one incident is worth a review.

Hi Trish,
I would agree with Mary and Bob on this. It sounds as if you really need a
second opinion.
Here in Denmark, epilepsy generally isn't diagnosed until you've had a
/second/ seizure because a seizure can have many different causes. eI'm not
a doctor, but I've heard somewhere that the stress of childbirth can trigger
seizures. It's not something I've investigated (having never been pregnant
and not planning to), but it might be worth looking into.
