Has anyone in here every had an anxiety attack before?  Do you know what
they feel like?  Can you please describe them to me because a few times
now I think I've experienced them but I'm not sure.  My mind starts
racing with crazy thoughts, I'm totally confused and can't relax or even
think of a peaceful thought to help calm me down.  I was in store
shopping for clothes and it hit so fast and all of a sudden I couldn't
look at the sizes on the clothes, I just walked around aimlessly and
everything seemed to be moving at a faster pace than normal.  It's
scary, because I can't control it at all.  My seizures are under control
right now which is good but now this has started.  I think because I'm
stressed out.  Is that related to panic attacks most likely?

I once thought I was having panic attacks and my dr. put me on paxil.
I didn't take it for very long... it did nothing. Retrospectively, I
believe what I was really having were simple partial seizures.
Couldn't really explain the feeling. I just felt really uneasy, odd
feeling in stomach, like I might pass out, scared that a big seizure
was about to come... Not a good experience. Still get them sometimes,
but knowing what it really is helps get through it faster.

Hi

There is a kind of Terror that happens when a seizure strikes the Amygdala.
The Amygdala is where the flight / fight response is triggered. When I get a
seizure there I get what I call THE TERROR. It has nothing to do with real
fear about something real happening beside a seizure hitting.

It is amazing. Pure and indescribably horrific. It cannot be accurately
described as anxiety or fear, this is way beyond that. My epileptologist
knew exactly where it was hittting and what was happening. It is a good
symptom to tell your doctor.

This may not be what you are experiencing. I hope it is not. Mine terrifies
me so much I can't even scream or run from it. I can edal with some of my
symopoms, but this one will cause me to head to the hospital as soon as I am
able.

I hope you do not get seizures in this area (or any other).

Yeah, the fear/apprehension thing is really hard to deal with.  Now that I know
what is happening I can deal with it a little better, but I haven't had any
really intense fear/apprehension for a long time.  That is one of he main
reasons I sought medical help is the fear was getting so bad I thought it was
only a matter or time before accidentally hurting myself or someone else.  I can
recall having a seizure while a passenger in a car.  I sat between two women,
thank goodness, because I would have opened the door and jumped out if I had
been sitting near a door.  My husband can't believe I would have done it, but
this was not rational fear..  There were other instances where the fear was so
bad I thought I was severely mentally ill.  All this was before I knew I had
epilepsy of course.  Things are pretty darned good with meds now.

You've got a plus Mark because you are not afraid to seek help.  Me, I didn't
trust people either during those fear times, and there was no way I would
voluntarily seek help when I was bad.

Mark, do you startle real bad too around your seizures?  I jump out of my skin
at unexpected sounds and movements.

Hi Mark,

What is an Amygdala and/or where is the Amygdala located? I think i suffer
from similar problems. I have a brain tumour located in my front right
temporal lobe. i get seizures, but they also seem like panic attacks,
because of the terror that associated with them.

Thanks,
Phil

My very first epilepsy symptoms were "panic attacks."   I didn't know I was
actually having seizures without all the symptoms.  But these attacks were
always followed by sudden and deep tiredness.  I usually had to check out my
purchases and go home.  Back in those days, I was dragging one or two babies
along with me, and I always blamed those attacks on just being a mommy, with
all the stress and lack of sleep that goes with that.  Otherwise, the way
you described them is very similar to what I experienced except I could not
stay in the store as I was bombed out.

Years later, I had trouble shopping in some stores or malls because of the
bright colors, shiny metal, blinking lights, highly waxed and reflective
floors, and other good things like that.  It seems I have a problem with
photosensitivity, and that's why all that stimulus while shopping would
annoy my brain.  Used to wear sunglasses to dull all that stimulus, but it's
hard picking out clothes when you don't know what color they are.  LOL!

Good morning Ren, How's Stimpy doin?
I've had two of what I call just as you describe. Add the photosensivity
that Barb mentioned.
The first , I called my wife and she got home to find me aimlessly
wandering around the backyard.
For me, just having someone to hold on to was enough to calm me down.
The second time, I couldn't
get in touch with anyone so I called 911. The Sheriff who showed up was
great in helping me. Because
I mentioned possibly hurting myself, I was Baker Acted which means I
spent 72 Hrs. in the State's care.
It actually helped me in that I sought out the appropriate people and
put more safeguards in place. For me,
one of the best things is recognizing the problems and then acting on them.
