g'day dave,
to tell you the truth dave i could care less about it. oh i know it will be
a boon to big business for shipping freight long distance and the train
buffs will enjoy the ride but when you spend all day wiring the electrics
for train carriages, as i do, it all seems a bit mundane. it's sort of like
how the mechanic's car is the worst in town or the painter's house usually
has the paint flaking off it, when you work on it all day you don't care for
it your offtime. i'm a bit surprised you heard about it over there, i always
thought anything that happened down under wasn't particularly newsworthy up
the northern hemisphere unless it was lunatic perpetrating a massacre or
some idiot taking his baby son for a walk in a crocodile pen. guess he never
heard the song "never smile at a crocodile" ;-). anyway how are things up
there. is it cold enough for you? Brrrrrr

Howdy!
Well... one of my dream vacation themes is train rides. I've plotted out the
east-west one, now I've got to check out the north-south one.
From what I hear it's not much longer than 48 hours (if that!)
Not quite the Trans-Siberian Oriental Express or the Palace on Wheels (in
India) but I'll stick it in my travel-log anyway!

g'day dave
shame you weren't checking things out a few months ago. unfortunately the
Great Southern Pacific Express stopped running a few months back, it was run
by the orient express company, but SARS and 9/11 knocked the tourist
business for a loop. incidentally i worked on building that train too, maybe
that's why it's kaput!
