had as some of you knew i had 2 seizures &
my level was toxic at 24.3. this time my potas-
ium level was low. i meet with my neurologist

out there to better control my seizures and is
my dilantin i have been taking for 4 years or

Dilantin is often prescribed first since it's older, and better studied than
many other AEDs. But Dilantin (if it doesn't work) is more than 70? years
old, so they might need to try a more targeted med.   The type would depend
on the particular seizure type you're having.
Although several people might have anecdotal information on what worked
for them (IF they are having Same seizure types), the Doctor is better
trained on your particular type and would be the first line of contact.
Once they move you to something else (since Dilantin doesn't appear to
be working), others might have experiences to share.
Many of the anti-ep drugs (AEDs) are compromised by alcohol, upset
stomach remedies and other over the counter products we can buy.  Also some
of the AEDs behave differently with Men or Women, or by Age of the person
using them.  It's pretty hard to do much online prescribing until the Doctor
has done some further tests.  (I have *no idea what my blood levels were or
are now, for example.  Your body didn't appear to be clearing the dose level
you were using as quickly as they expected or you wouldn't have been
'toxic'.   When I was first on Dilantin, we did Bloodwork each 2 weeks for
about 3 months, then each 3 months. When I had to move to another med., that
also was followed the first 12-15 months with bloodwork as we adjusted to a
level that was stable.)
Others here might have anecdotal experiences to share once the weekend
is over.  Stick around, it gets quiet on the weekends.  Early in the week
you should get other replies.
Did they tell you Which TYPE of seizures you're having?  Grand Mal,
Complex Partial, Simple Partial, etc.   The type will help others who have
same type of szrs. to give you input or ideas.    G.
