Hi everyone! About three years ago I injured my shoulder and had to
take anti-inflmmatory medicines. I took Ibuprofen for a some time and
my shoulder healed I thought and I didn't have any serious side
effects from the meidicine. Well, last summer I injured my shoulder
again. I started on the Iburpofen and in about 1 to 2 weeks my
seizures got worse. I quit taking the Ibuprofen and my seizures got
back to normal but my shoulder got worse. My doctors tried me on so
many different medicines its hard to remember what all I have taken
but everyone of them made my seizures worse after taking them for
several weeks. Has anyone had this problem and if so, is there
anything off the counter that works for you? I thought about trying
the childrens Iburprofen, etc., and hope this helps. With each type I
have taken, after several weeks of taking even just taking 1 a day or
1 every other day, it was like I had a "buildup" of it in my system.
Any ideas on what might work? My doctors aren't any help. Thanks!
Kathy

Hi Kathy,
Here in New Zealand we can get Voltarin Gel (an anti inflammatory) which you
rub onto the affected area. I've found it very effective for muscle
injuries. Don't know if it would effect your seizures - I've never had a bad
reaction to anti inflamatories. Also Don't know whether it would be
available where you are or not. It's available over the counter here. At
least it wouldn't be something that you take internally, which might make a
difference.
All the best.
Darryl.

Thanks Darryl! I think you're right! I rubbed some pain cream on the
area last night and the pain went away immediately! Apparently the
injury isn't very deep or that would not make it feel so good so
quick! My husband and I discussed that if I could find an
anti-inflammatory cream or gel to use, that it might work and not
affect my seizures. I have been trying to find names of this type of
drug online here in the US but haven't had any luck. I did a search
for the drug you mentioned and apparently it isn't available here but
I'll keep looking. Thanks again for your information. Kathy

Hi Kathy,
Yes and Yes to your question. anti-inflammatories were strictly forbidden to my
daughter by her doc (orthodox medicine, not alternative), even before there was
a presenting cause to speak about it. The doc told her so BEFORE there was any
accident, that antibiotics and anti inflammatories will forever be No!No!s to
her. (Same with headache pills. She was only allowed such with a single agent,
no composed pill.)
The Voltaren Gel contains Diclophenac which will worsen your seizures. It is
even known to cause psychosis in some cases. One of those I know personally, a
very dramatic one I know by the description of a mom.
Try to find some other solution that would be suitable to you , and one that
will not harm you.
I wish you good luck in finding!
Best to you,
Katharina

Hi Katharina! Thanks for your information. Do you have any ideas as to
what is out there that I could try? I have run out of ideas and my
doctors keep trying different anti-inflammatory medicines but with the
same results. Thanks for your help. Kathy

Hi Katharina! May I ask you if there is anything your daughter can
take that doesn't affect her seizures and if so, what is it? Thanks
for your time and information. Kathy
