**G It might if there are changes going on. *Once I got a stable dose by
itself, it seemed to work about 1994/5 for 2 years. Then I had some more
szrs. and had to reduce it and add a 2nd pill.
One place I found for good answers specific to a medication (at least
before I got a computer) was my Pharmacist (Chemist in UK for others).
They have the scripts and often know more of the Details and Side Effects
that the Manufacturer might issue to providers over time, than some of the
Doctors.
(It sounds to *me like you might have one of those. My 'olde Doctor'
would take the time to listen to my concerns about symptoms, and if
necessary research or have one of his students research other side effects.)
ONE that I found *here (on alt.ep or efa website), then confirmed with my
Pharmacist after I had used Tegretol for ~2 years was that Grapefruit Juice
happens to mess up that particular medication. Other Citrus drinks don't
but one of the acids in Grapefruit. interferes with Carbamazepine.

*** Although our type of szr. might be different (mine is Right Temporal
Lobe -- now called Complex Partial szrs.), I was at 2x 400mg each day for
Adult Male body weight (400mg Morning, then 400 at night) then, rather than
increase my Mgs, my Neuro phased out the night dose over about 8 weeks and
at week ~3 phased up a dose of Frisium (Clobazam) that had just been
approved in Canada. This was about 1995/6.
As I had more szrs. (less often than yours), we adjusted the Morning
dose to combine the 400mg Tegretol CR and first half a tablet Frisium (i.e.
5mg), then a Full Tablet 10mg with the 10mg Frisium I was using at night.
That was the **Last Med. change I've ever had (1996). I've only had ~3
C.P. Seizures since then, and they were Emotion-related to events around me.
The Doctor never changed my dosing level since then.
Did you look through the http://efa.org site? I think from there you
can get to the Medications Glossary which has some of the stuff your
Pharmacist gets. *But my Pharmacist I found was an Excellent source of
information, like your questions here, and I didn't need an Appointment or 2
weeks wait to go see her... (If that address doesn't go to Ep. Foundation of
America above, Howdy and Julie Walton both have links within their sites to
the correct address.) /

*G** I think I had a 'plugged ear' feeling at one point as I adjusted
doses, either Up on the Tegretol, or as we added the Frisium (Clobazam) and
reduced the Tegretol. I think I also had a 'numb cheek' a couple of times
*back then, that lasted from 1-2 days to part of a week. Usually about the
point where I decide to Call to go see my Neuro, any symptoms I wondered
about seemed to clear up.
**IF you need a 2nd Med. **Don't be afraid if the Dr. knows what they're
doing. The Frisium I went to was New and had just been approved (after
8-10? years of testing) in Canada. I had **Less Sleepless nights, and
restless sleep when I got to the right Mix of the Newer Med. and the
Tegretol CR.
I have also seen other people 'around here' who are using Frisium with
one Other(?) pill than Tegretol. Not being a Doctor, that's the extent of
Advice I can suggest without a Licence. :-< But it works so well for my
type of T.L. Seizures as an add-on, I just wondered if it would work as
well for you.
As far as Prescription costs, 200 tablets of Tegretol are about the same
with Prescription fee added, as ~200 tablets of the Frisium, so my pill
costs didn't change measurably. G.R.
(Write me direct if you have trouble linking to above efa site or want more
detail. That was most of it above, but we both live in Canada, so our
Pharmacy people and info. sources might be compatible.)
