Hi,
I am a new member. I started having seizures during my senior year of high school, about 17 years old. I didn't know that I was having petit mal seizures at that time. My boyfriend during this time would tell me that my eyes would flutter for a second. I thought he was out of his mind. I would also spill things easily and wouldn't understand why. I had a severe injury to my head when I was in my sophmore year of college. I had surgeries to correct my facial injuries. Finally, when I was in my junior year of college, I was teaching an aerobics class and had a grand mal seizure in the middle of my class. I was sleep deprived, drinking a lot of caffeine (not enough water) and was stressed out due to tests. I went to the hospital where they did an EEG and found a problem with my temporal lobe. I was on medication, Depakote, for about 3 years. I went back to my doctor to have a second EEG. My doctor moved, I never received the results and just went off my meds. (I know, probably not a real smart move). I have been seizure free now for about 5 years. I have two kids and I'm going back to school. Just recently I have been feeling really hazy in the morning. I don't feel right. I am going through more stress lately due to school and not sleeping well because my 7 month old is not sleeping through the night. I have woken up in the middle of the night biting my tongue. Am I having seizures at night? Am I experiencing auras when I wake up in the morning? If I get a good nights sleep I am okay, but this is very rare. This feeling is giving my panic attacks while I'm in school because I'm so afraid I am going to seize. I am trying to retrieve records from my past MD and I am going to see another neurologist. Has anyone experienced these symptoms?

You might be having auras during the morning like you said (some websites
list them under Simple Partial Seizures). You could also be having S.P. or
other types of seizures while you're asleep. That would account for waking
up feeling over-tired. It could contribute to a more restless sleep.
(Have you ever had tongue or tooth pains in the morning, like you were
grinding your teeth at night but without waking up? Several of the
stronger szr. types (Complex Partial, Grand mal, etc.) a person may not be
aware if they're having a szr. or wake up during it. And our 'seizure focus'
(level where you might tend to have szrs.) can be lowered at night, as your
body relaxes more than it does when you're alert.)
Note too, if you can't find info. on searches for Temporal Lobe seizures,
those are now included as part of Complex Partial Seizures on recent (last
10+ years) sites.

Hi. I've been having grand mal seizures since I was about 18. Before I have
a seizure, I always experience a feeling of hazy, panic. It often includes a
sensitivity to sound and light. Oddly, I feel much more connected to the
world, everything seems more beautiful and real, almost to the point of
weeping. These feelings or auras almost always come as a result of me a)not
sleeping enough or being stressed (I teach 5th graders), b) drinking red
wine (which has lots of sulfites) or hard alcohol. Caffeine doesn't seem to
bother me, though I drink tea and not coffee. At times, I think I've had
seizures in my sleep, but can never tell if they are a dream or reality.
I've been on two medications Dilantin, and now have just recently switched
to Lamictal. My seizures are totally controlled unless I do the things
mentioned above or go off my medication w/out consulting my neurologist, as
I'm sometimes prone to do.
Hope this helps.
