It's got quite common here in the US that drug testing can become required
for many phases of life.  Nevermind the issues of personal liberty or
whatever, but when you drug test your basically required to give the tester
a little pee, which is then tested of illegal substance.  Part of the test
is that you have to tell them any medications that you take. I take 350mg of
Dilantin a day, and have very good seizure control.  Almost all of my
seizures have been while I was sleeping, and only once did I have seizure
when I was taking anti-convulsents, and that occurred when I tried to use
generic dilantin.  I'm also taking about no more than a dozen seizures over
a 15 year period.  They come in relation to a brain tumor I had removed 10
years ago, and I have had only three since then.

In short, I feel like my use of dilantin is personal information that does
not need to be divulged to a drug tester. There is a stigma, real or
imagined that comes from having had brain surgery that I would just rather
most people not know. Does anybody know if I omit mentioning dilantin when
testing if it will back up on me and I'll get branded an illicit drug user?

David,
This information came directly from a Lab Tech.
You do not have to list any drugs to the collector/tester.
If the screen is positive, a Medical Review Officer will contact you
to see if you have a valid prescription e.g. positive opiates -
prescription for oxycodone.
If you have a valid prescription, the report goes to the employer as
Negative.

Dilantin is not part of a routine / pre-employment drug screen.

Stay vertical,
T

BTW: Mark, GRANOOLA DOES SHOW POSITIVE, SO PUT THE WATER PIPE DOWN!

David,
Why not mention the Dilantin? I was on Tegretol the last time I had a
drug test for my job and I mentioned it because one time before that I
failed a drug test. Tegretol produces THC and I omitted my medication at the
time of the test until I get a call saying I tested positive for THC. Once I
told them my dosage it was OK.  I feel it's better to let them know all my
meds instead of taking a chance of failing.
