Hi All,

On a bit of a downer at the moment due to uncontrolled complex partials and
the daunting prospect of surgery to remove some or all of my right temporal
lobe. I have a prescription for an anti-depressant called Cipramil but I
believe that some of these sorts of meds can actually trigger more seizures.
Does anyone have any first hand experience with this or similar drugs ?

Thanks,
Robbo

Hi Robbo,
No experience with Cipramil.  I took/still take Prozac.  But I had a
portion of my right temporal lobe removed in July 1999.  If you'd like
to chat about the surgery, feel free to email.  I'm seizure-free on a
half dose of dilantin.

I was put on Cipramil (citalopram) for a while, which meant that I mixed
it, eventually at maximum dosage, with AEDs with no ill effects, and no
seizure triggers or increase in sensitivity.

The only thing I noticed was a rather weird sensation like a high-
pressure buzz in the head, slowly sweeping down through my body to my
extremities (I felt like was being scanned by a Tetrion beam in Star
Trek). I never decided whether these were an aura or just a side effect,
but they never materialised into anything so they were just an odd
feeling, not altogether unpleasant!

A number of SSRIs and MAOI meds which contained warnings proved to be
completely compatible with my AEDs.

No. It was certainly effective, but after a while the maximum dose and
potential had been reached and a different anti-depressant was required.
I had to wait six weeks to get the Cipramil completely out of my system
before transferring to another AD med, but that seems to be fairly
standard practice when changing between different kinds of ADs.

Good luck,
