Howdy Phil!
Accupuncture is a well documented form of medicine. My only question would
be:
"How can an accupuncturist treat your epilepsy if s/he doesn't know exactly
what part(s) of the brain is/are effected by triggers and seizure activity?"

My question would be how do they stick the needles in someone who can't stop
trembling long enough

well my epilepsy is from a brian tumor, and i've given him my MRI's to look
at. This acupuncturist was formerly an MD then switched to homeopathic
medicine in his retiring years. so hopefully both disciplines will
compliment each other. along with the acupuncture he's got me on a very
nasty tasting tea. :)

Hi Phil,
I've been having acupuncture for four years, since epilepsy came into
my life. At that time, I had two major seizures and then the
neurologist put me on Tegretol, which seems to suit me fine. No more
grand mals and only a few 'absences' months apart, which haven't
appeared now for about two and a half years. So, now my neurologist is
sneding me for an EEG and is going to consider reducing the dose a
little.
I don't know if it was the acupuncture that helped sort things out or
if Tegretol did it or if my grand mals were a blip in my life. But
acupunture certainly made me feel more relaxed and at the same time
raised my energy levels. I just assumed i was a person without much
energy. But my acupuncturis certainly made a difference. She says
she's realigned my central nervous system.....No wonder I was feeling
bad.
Anyway, I don't know how it works, but I found it very helpful. The
only problem was that my neurologist refused to consider it as a valid
treatment and my acupuncturist refused to get in touch with the
neurologist to tell him that in her opinion I could start reducing the
dose after a year. So I was caught in the middle. (She did insist that
I should only reduce it with the neuro's supervision, never suggesting
that we 'go it alone').
So, I wish you luck. At the very least it'll help relax you, which
can't be bad if we believe that epilepsy may be linked to stress. Hope
it works for you!
Christine
