referred to a neurologist

Hello Everyone:

Epilepsy runs in my family; both my great aunt and my uncle have it, and
now I've been referred to a neurologist for tests because of some
problems/symptoms I've been having (I am 34 years old).

I get these quick sharp pains in my head (occipital, and left temporal
areas mainly) and then my speech becomes slurred and I get dizzy. . . in
the evenings, my legs jerk and I feel incrediblly restless (tired or
not). The worst part is that my memory, both long and short term is
getting worse. And, I think I'm having really short black outs ( I get
this feeling like I missed something a lot, it's really weird).

I've had these symptoms for years but always thought it was normal until
I was diagnosed with a learning disablity (the neuropsychologist said I
had "diffuse brain disfunction").

Needless to say,  when my doctor said that I should go see a specialist,
it really scared me.

Are these symptoms something I should worry about?

Thank you so much.

everyone in this group, including me can empathize with you. the
nuerologist will order tests to determine the cause. try not to worry.
in my case, i was relieved to learn the results. a lot of your symptoms
mimic epilepsy so that may be a possibility. i myself was just diagnosed
with it and i'm trying to adjust. don't worry til they tell you there's
something to worry about. i'll keep thinking good thoughts for you.
please stay with us and let us help wherever we can.

Any time we have to face going to the specialist over and knowing the end
result may possibly be epilepsy it is worrisom..but very very liveable and
as Jacki said...hang in there and take it one day at a time and don't get
worked up over something you can't control...
keep with this group as it is a great shoulder to lean on..
I have for a number of yrs.. 38 and diagnosed when I was 24..
cheers. Jim

Jim, I am trying to "stay in the now," but it sure is scary not knowing
what the matter is. . . you and Jacki have made me feel very welcome and
I will keep coming back here.

Thank you!!!

it is scary..
even for me..I had a seizure on the weekend and it scared me bad......and
it takes a long time to recover and longer to get one's confidence
back...but..it does come back...so hang in there.
cheers.
