Howdy!

Bob thought that the other thread was getting a bit long so I just thought
that I'd start a new one so people don't have to follow a thread for 10
miles.

I'm a person of the "I'm an epileptic" mind set myself!

Well, I'm happy to contribute to another ten mile thread ...

So am I.

But haven't we been here before?

Ah, that's called a 'deja vu' Mary, and it means you may be an
epileptic. Get yourself checked out by a good electrician as soon as
possible.

Er - which is that?

If you mean wondering if you're my husband it's because you share the same
name and remind me of him with a lot of things you say.

Very practical.

Infuriatingly so.

An answer to everything.

Hrumph.

But I've told you all that many times before - for 44 years ...

Howdy Malcom!

Folks around these parts just don't appreciate us geniuses who know
everything and are gracious enough to share our unlimited wisdom, knowledge,

Howdy Bob!

I've set my server to chop off previously read posts after a few days.

For those who keep the entire thread forever the last thread probably was
getting a bit long and unruly. So, what the heck!

I STILL WANT TO HEAR FROM SOME OF YOU LURKERS OUT THERE!!!!!!!!   :)

How about from a new poster/lurker? ;-)

Since my daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy, I have posted here a bit and
lurked even more.  the threads that run through this board are helpful to me
and my family.

This thread has been very interesting to read and here is my .02 cents
worth.  I personally (this is my view and I don't pretend to push it on
anyone else) have never allowed any label to have any power over me or my
family.  My mother was a diabetic or had diabetes, my father was an
alchoholic, or had a drinking problem, and now my daughter is an epileptic
or has epilepsy.  The other person can choose the label but the individual
either allows or disallows that label to have any power over their person.
I judge people by their actions not their labels.  If someone else can't do
that I am not interested in calling that individual a friend.

Zeeke

Howdy Zeeke!

I agree with you about judging people...

My big problem is with family members -- especially parents -- who make a
big deal about it.

This is very often done for their own benefit in an attempt to get rid of
the prejudicial connotations about epileptics that they had for themselves
before having a family member who was: 'one of those people.'

It doesn't sound at all pompous to me, just eminently sensible.

But perhaps I'm pompous. I thought I was only arrogant and opinionated ...

Sorry Dave, it's Schrodinger's Cat Syndrome - the moment a lurker posts
they cease to be a lurker.

ROTFLOL - postICTal, I get it.

BTW I have epilepsy.  But if you say I am an epileptic I won't have a cow, but I
would prefer you say "Julie has epilespy".

In my case if I used adjectives it would drive me nuts. Here goes, I'm a
diabetic, epileptic, allergic, asthmatic lupoid (systemic lupus) and there
is even more. How would I say all this stuff?  I'm a person with chronic
illnesses.
