Much strange stuff being posted here. But I have a serious question for
those experienced with Epilepsy.

I don't remember if I've posted before. So, to recap, I was first diagnosed
about 16 months ago after having two seizures, one at home and one at the
hospital later. Most likely cause was a ruptured AVM which happened a few
months earlier (and I had been warned at that time I might have seizures and
had been put on Dilantin as a precaution). After the seizures I was put on
Keppra, 1000 Mg twice a day (and eventually weaned off of the Dilantin).
Didn't have any more seizures until about a month ago. All three seizures I
guess were generalized (I lost consciousness) but only the second (in the
hospital) was a full tonic-clonic.

My neurologist upped my Keppra to 1500 MG at night (still 1000 in the AM).
No further seizures so far

But, I am getting some strange feelings, usually mid to late afternoon. Some
light-headedness or spaciness, sometimes a little headache, some dizziness
and nausea (nausea probably due to dizziness). And I sometimes get the
sensation that I could pass out if I "let" myself do so. At that point I
start doing things like looking around and tapping my foot in an attempt to
not pass out. So far, so good. But I don't know what these sensations are.
Could I just be being hypersensitive to normal afternoon fatigue? Reacting
to increased Keppra dosage? Or could these be "auras" or small partial
seizures? (My AVM was at the right top of my frontal lobe - presumably that
would be the focus for a partial seizure).

Last part describes it.  They're likely Simple Partial Szrs.
sometimes called an Aura.   Look under http://efa.org or check one of
Julie's posts last week that listed the Idaho website at end.   (I
also did a post a few weeks ago - "Websites of use to newer people" --
that lists total of about 5 from above groups plus others.
If you look under symptoms or above szr. (sps), you'll find the
sensations you describe listed there.   You could tell the Dr. as the
morning med. might be wearing off before the night dose, and they
might want to adjust the AM dose up and possibly reduce? the night
one, or just up the AM dose.   G./

Hi guys

Yup, it sounds like an aura.

I used to have auras (I could sense when something was going to happen, in
my case, when I was going to have a fit). I would get an aura

It was like feeling giddy. In my case, I usually sat down so it would go
away. It still happens now.

Even tho, I no longer take drugs. I took drugs for 25 yrs, and the drugs
(Tegretol,Dilantin,Epilim), affected me so much at work, (I felt frustrated,
I had major memory loss (I couldnt remember a thing, for more than a
minute).

And I used to get aggressive for no apparent reason.

So, in 1991 I went for an EEG and that showed no abnormal activity. I
decided to go off all drugs.(1.1.92)

I have now been drug free for 16 yrs.. Even tho I'm happy that I no longer
have to take drugs, I have a feeling the side affects are starting to kick
in now.

In my case, I can no longer deal with jobs or apply for any jobs. Because of
the side affects these drugs have caused (I have anti-social behaviour, I
cant deal with job interviews, and I couldnt attend meetings (when I used to
work).

I now have a social phobia. Because of these drugs.

If I'm in a crowd of people, or if I have to get in front of people, I will
/ can hyperventilate.

I have known about my avm for about 23 years. I take 400 Milligrams of
dilantin a day. It pretty much controls it. I have times when I get the
wierdest feeling come over me. I can feel it coming and then have to deal
with it. It usually happens when I lay down. Sometimes I go for weeks before
that feeling comes upon me. I know I am very fortunate

When I was first diagnosed (and not yet controlled), my Neuro told
me that some of them could happen at night or when I relaxed, since
our 'guards' tend to be down when we're near sleep, so some types
tended (in me) to happen more often then.
At 80% control I found some of my auras seemed to occur (during the
day) when Low Air pressure was moving in (Rain or Snow on the way).
Handy for predicting the weather, bothersome when I was trying to get
100% control.
I still get mild 'brain fog' sometimes when weather is changing,
but Meds. have controlled original Complex Partials now since 1998.
(In 1993, I was told to 'hope for' 2-3 szrs. a month as a target,
based on EEGs and MRIs done at the time.)    G./

Group sure is quiet, though Howdy Dave posted 3-4 groups he had
found about 3 years ago, that other 12+ regulars might have moved to.
I also found that my Spamkiller will trap more than 100 messages
(trash) tomorrow, now that I've reposted with this Eml here-- mostly
robot harvesters- many not in English.  I wonder sometimes what they
must think they can sell by sending junk in Greek, Asian. Spamish or
HTML texts that this reader discards. I guess no one expects The
Spamish Inquisition.... :-<   )   //
