I have a problem with sleeping, It dosen't matter what time I go to bed
at night. I will not fall asleep until about 2:00 in the morning. and I
will not wake up untill 9:00 or later, sometimes I sleep until noon or
later. This is not after a seisure but has become my regular sleeping
habit. Now my meds are 600mgs Carbatrol in the morning and at night
,2mgs of Clonazepam at night. In the morning I take 600mgs og Carbatrol
and 20mgs of Lexapro. I have tried every Med that is out for Epilepsy,
Have had the Vagus Nerve Stimulator installed had Right Temporal Lobe
Surgery and this combonation of drugs is the only thing that keeps my
seisures somewhat under control. All the other Meds either didn't work
or I had a reaction to them. Does anyone else have sleeping problems
with their Meds or just sleeping problems because of their Epilepsy.

I *think Carbatrol is a generic form of Tegretol? (Carbamazepine).
Are you taking it with juice, food or milk when you use it?  If not it
may not be absorbed properly, so messing up the blood level targets
your Dr. is trying for?
Do *not use Grapefruit juice in case it's related to Tegretol. One
of the acids in that juice (not others) can conflict with it.  Also
Alcohol or upset stomach remedies can affect blood levels of most
pills.
I think the Tegretol (so carbatrol?) is absorbed in the kidneys so
that is ~2-3 hours from when you take it before it starts to move into
blood? Perhaps if you could take it 2-3 hours *earlier than bedtime it
might be at therapeutic levels when you retire?
(I'm not a Dr. so you should ask the Pharmacist or Doctor whether
that makes sense.  I found comments above about Grapefruit and Alcohol
online and later had my local pharmacy add the Grapefruit advice to
their printout they give new patients.   Some of the erratic Temporal
lobe seizures I had in mid 1990s I suspect were following days when I
was drinking juice blends that contained the grapefruit.)  When I went
to straight fruit juice or cereal before bedtime (after the pills), I
found I had less restless nights than some I had before that.
I don't have any experience with *either the Clonazepam or Lexapro.

I sleep TONS from my Meds even when I don't have a seizure.  That is,
except when I have AWFUL insomnia, like I did last night.

I'm going for a Sleep Apnea test soon.
