Dear All,
My neurosurgeon originally prescribed Gabapentin three hundred milligrams
three times a day for nerve pain. However, we discovered quite by accident
that it works to control my seizurs. Now I'm in a bind. He has not yet
refilled it and I'm down to one pill. Its been over a week since we called
it in and nothing is being done. my neurologist absolutely refuses to do
anything, he won't run tests to even rule out epilepsy. he says I have
migraines and that topamax is better than gabapentin. (see my other post for
my reactions to it) with the gabapentin I have very few if any side effects.
Suggestions? the doctor who would normally fill it for me can't because "its
not my prescription."
Any advice is appreciated.

Why has the neurosurgeon not refilled the Gabapentin?  Who is treating
your seizures?  Are you still the neurosurgeon's patient?  If the
neurologist is not communicative, you may need to find another
neurologist.

Best,

Bob

its strange, but no one is. I just keep having to ask for the gabapentin,
from the neurosurgeon, because he's the only one that will refill it. my
actual neuro thinks I'm lying and that all I have are migraines.
yes I have a constant pounding headache only eased by vicodin, and its been
that way for over a year, and the seizures have been getting worse. but no
its not migraines. Even I know that.
I hopefully will get another one this summer, if at all possible. for now
though I'm stuck with Castro.

The Pharmacy I have will refill part of the pills (a week's supply)
that shouldn't be stopped abruptly, even while waiting for the Call
Back from the Neuro I had. After I had been *controlled with pills for
more than about 4 years, my Neuro transferred my File back to my
Family Doctor.  That Doctor now refills the Szr. meds. that have
worked at same dose now since 1995+ .
Do you have a Family Doctor who you could take the prescriptions
to, and have him write you a new Prescription at same dosage and rate
as worked for you?  That way the Pharmacy can get a callback in
reasonable time.   G./
(I didn't realize that 'Castro'  was still able to write
prescriptions... :->  )

laugh. Castro is his real name, and he's a real pain. We'll hopefully get me
a family doctor by the time the year is out. he can write precriptions, only
ones he knows how to write are topamax for migraines and periactine for
migraines.
he doesn't do any sort of tests, and I fully intend to take him to the
medical board.
