........And the drug companies wonder why we hate them

I'm taking Lamictal.... so far so good, I'm up to the full dose, 400 mg/day.
I had to start off with the 25 mg pills. I assumed there was no generic
Lamictal in the USA.

Here's what makes me want to puke. There are generic CHEWABLE 25 mg and 5 mg
pills.
The doctor didn't write a prescription for CHEWABLE pills, so the pharmacist
didn't offer me
the generic ones. I'm not blaming the doctor, I bet he didn't know.

They're made by an Israeli company and licensed for sale in the USA !

This company made a deal to sell the other sizes in 2008.

I've looked at Canadian pharmacies. Generic pills made by Canadian companies
seem ok, but
they're probably not manufactured in Canada. Do you want pills manufactured
in a second-world country ?
That's up to you. I realize many people don't have a choice because of the
high prices.

So what about getting name-brand pills from Canada ? You should never buy
those.
I knew somebody who ordered name-brand pills from Canada. They were the
right pills,
but the packaging was written in Russian.

If you don't have insurance and want a free discount card, this web site is
good.
http://www.yourrxcard.com/ You can use it at most pharmacies in the USA.

***** If those are the correct mg's, wouldn't the latter be made for
children? For your dose above of 400mg a day, you'd need to take **16
chewable 25mg tablets a day to get 400 mgs. ?  I haven't used
Lamictal, but many of the other child-sized pills are a far lower dose
than an adult would use, and are made either in a liquid or chewable
with a filler so that young kids (under 10) would be able to use them
without causing trouble (for the parent).
(Many of the AEDs depend on a fixed rate per day for a given body
weight and metabolism, so the amount they'd take would be far lower
than an adult would use. ? )  //

(** So you're saying the sizes you wanted won't be available, where
you are, until next year ? )

**** How would you know? where they're made-- some of the tablets sold
in Canada (and Europe and U.S.)  might be manufactured in only 1
country if they're still under patent protection. If the one you're
looking at (above) is still under Patent Protection (where the
developer is still recovering the costs of Research etc. developing
it), those costs would be comparable in the U.S., Canada, or Europe
wouldn't they?
If they've been licenced by the originating Patent Holder, they
will have specific standards and tolerances for another company to
have clearance to make them with the originator's Brand Name on them.
If they were made in Canada, and to tolerances of pills you use in
U.S., you might pay 30% less with the Exchange Difference, unless
Shipping costs or Duties applied by **your Government gets added.
Don't assume that 'free trade' works if your government slaps a duty
on at your end-- they do for Softwood Lumber, and multi products we
export, and have for 5 years.
And if you're so Convinced they'd be Crap, why bother doing an
online search to see where they might be available ? (above)  /

*** None of mine have been written in Russian, so what did they do
with the pills they bought?  Did they return them and get English
Text? or discard them?  If they discarded them, the money they
'saved'  buying offshore could have been used to buy the Licenced
product.  I certainly wouldn't trust a company I picked up 'online' to
order pills from, unless I knew a lot of people who had used the
source and had experiences with them.
And was it a Licenced (in Canada or U.S.) Pharmacy, or one of the
300 'spam-based'  ones that send junk following posts here?   If they
got them from there, they *weren't buying Canadian-made pills-- the
Spam site sent their order through a 'bounce link' to Russia, and
their U.S.?  Currency was being converted to Russian funds-- the pills
were then boxed and mailed (in Russia), to a Canada PO Box, to your
Friend....
With some pills we use here (this group), getting a fake Pill
that's not **even the Anti Ep. Med. I use could be Dangerous.  If the
seizure control is lost, they could mess up our health and we'd need
stronger pills (if we survived), that would cost more than what we'd
save buying online..
//////////
I don't know how offices of the Ep. Foundation of America work, but
if they're similar to Canadian Offices, some Local chapters of EFA
might have programs that will help people get reduced-cost pills, or
sometimes subsidized by the manufacturers, and the products they get
might be closer to what you'd like for optimum quality and use.   It's
worth a try.  G./

Just a note about lamotrigine (Lamictal):
I was a guinea pig (before it was on the market). With a dose as
high as 400mgm/day, I bruised very easily and sometimes, after the main
part of the bruise had gone, there was a permanent pattern of red blood
vessels. I say 'permanent' because I reduced my dose to 300mgm/day years
ago but the red pattern is still there.
Now I take 100mgm in the morning, 75mgm after lunch and 100mgm at
night and have fewer fits than I did when I was on 400mgm/day but, of
course, the frequency of fits might well have reduced over the time anyway.
