Just as an update to my earlier posts, now 13 weeks on keppra & still
seizure free.  Only 3 more weeks to a personal best.  Wife & kids have
noticed a small increase in "depressive moods", but that could also be
due to other factors (1 daughter about to have knee surgery, other
daughter dislocated knee, & wife just out of surgery following removal
of hemorrhoids - things always come in threes don't they?). Other than
that, generally feel much better than before.

As a matter of interest, I've found lamictal & gabapentin didn't suit me
at all, but keppra seems to be wonderful - anyone noticed the opposite
(lamictal & gabapentin OK, but lousy results on keppra)?

The answer to that question  is Yes in my case. Keppra (and tegretol) did
absolutely nothing for me. Lamictal was giving good results until we had to
stop it because I got the infamous rash. Since then, I've been on an
increased dose of Neurontin (gabapentin) along with phenobarbital added to
the mix. It's not perfect, but a whole lot better than the way I had been.

New to this newsgroup just trying to find out if people are experiencing
same side effects as my wife on Keppra she had been taking it for 16 months
seizure free.

She the started having seizures intial dose was 250mg twice per day. Now she
has increased to 1000mg twice per day seems to be controlling seizures but
she is experincing excrutiating headaches. Does this decrease in time as she
has been on the increased doseage for 2 1/2 weeks now.

Anyone who could help would be very welcome.

I am back in this newsgroup... Personnaly I start to be satisfied with
my treatment (Keppra): I did not have any crisis for (approximatly) 6
weeks. I went back to university last september, preparing my degree
of physics in order to become engineer, without any medical problem. I
just had few problems to sit because of my broken vertebra, but
normally it should be possible next wednesday, after a consultation in
the hospital. I hope that well will occur, and that I will be able to
again live independently... Good luck with all!

hi all

i've just been put on keppra, which is impossible to get in australia, tried
10 chemists and failed on all, it seems that there is only two distributors
in queensland, which most go through the one that can't supply it at the
moment. from what i understand is that keppra has only been available in
australia since july this year? i have tried to do research on the drug, but
can only come up with the facts that its only a new drug.

been on epilim, lamitical, tegretol and keppra in the last four years. still
on the tegretol at the moment, and have become quite aggressive to the point
where my flat mate is scared of me and has asked me to move out. i am moody,
abusive, will start screaming every crued word under the sun at the drop of
a hat. a couple of weeks ago i have a seizure on a bus and started into the
ambulance driver and emergency staff at the hospital. i have also been down
lately and tried to kill myself a couple of weeks ago.

i have seen my neuro and my gp and trying to get me off tegretol, and onto
keprra, but i know nothing about keppra. i don't have the time to be fooling
around with my medications as i am doing 2 degrees at 2 universities this
semester. if anyone knows of any side effects of keppra, the tegretol was
great in the begining as i went 5 months without a seizure at the begining
of this year, but clearly isn't working anymore.

thanks

Hi Bernie

I'm on Keppra for just over a year now - its been in Australia a long
time but up until July this year was only available on private script
so my Pharmacist used to order it directly from the distributor for
me.  Mind u I use the same Pharmacist all the time and so they are
extremely helpful and are a local one rather than a large city one.
By the way I'm in Queensland also - Brisbane.

Yeah, I know my temper has quickened - but I'm on so many drugs I
wasn't sure which one to blame - but thankfully the people close to me
just ignore it - as they know its not the real me and if they don't
react then its all fine and dandy within a short period of time.  But
yes it is a worry when outsiders are affected - but you know these
people would understand that sometimes people do feel out of the
comfort zone in situations and can become aggressive.

Its a good drug for me though - I have reduced from 8-10 seizures a
day to approx 2 - so thats good!

A good website for drug research is www.rxlist.com I hope it will help
with your research on Keppra

I wish you well with our drug changes - I know what its like when
things get switched I've been on my share of AED's over the past two
years.

Hey Carol,

i tried several across town, from my local one at red hill to bulimba where my
(now-ex) partner lives... I was talking to my mother one day and she rang around
and finally got one at ferny hills / arana hills. but as its out in the middle
of no-where when you don't drive... its a pain in my bum

if you don't mind me asking, where is you chemist? if they is stocking it for
you, maybe they can stock it for me too.

thanks for that

No problem Bernie - I use SuperPharm on Stafford Road - I believe they
also have a store at Sandgate - if you go to Stafford ask either
Judith or Barbara - they are awesome - you can even say I recommended
you to them.

Hope this helps!
