Hi. *I haven't had any surgery, but there are 1 or 2 who only read
the group 2-3x a week, so see if any of them reply. Not all of them
necessarily had the same surgery also. I assume? they had part of 1 of
the temporal lobes? where the szrs. were happening? Or was it
another area? (i.e. tell us more.. )
*I use Tegretol CR to control Right T.Lobe seizures (that's why I
assumed that might be where they decided to do a surgery).
Mine are Late onset and likely not as severe as his(?), and I didn't
have ADHD so that is another different.
It's good to reduce the Tegretol slowly, as too quick a removal can
cause some szrs. just from the withdrawal effect (several Anti Ep meds
have that side effect). Also Tegretol is used to treat some people
who've had strokes, and not just seizures necessarily.
That's the limit of my experience with above, except if you hadn't
heard, don't use Grapefruit juice with Tegretol and if any cold
medicines are ever needed, show them to the Pharmacy who fills the
*Tegretol to make sure there's no filler that can conflict with it (as
some contain alcohol or other things like that).
Let us know how this progresses and how you're making out. I think
(right now) I'm the only other member who's actually In Canada.
Julie (in Idaho) is closer to you if she's still around, and there was
another fellow in NFLD. posting a while back.
An advantage of this 24 hour group, when it's active, is some of the
people in U.S. New Zealand and Australia, plus Poland, Italy, Germany
and UK can put up comments over next few days and it'll appear under
your Post (like this one), where you can find possible tips, support or
just some ideas that might help.
The Temporal Lobes control short term learning and Memory. New
learning goes there First when we read or hear information, then it's
moved to longer term memory for permanent storage, if it's important to
remember.. I don't know a lot about ADHD--- are you able to tell
(or will you be? ) if there's small to *significant Improvement to
their Memory? Or will the Dr. be doing tests (I assume) in a month or
2 to see if there's marked change from better memory-functioning, if
any 'erratic wiring' was causing some of any learning difficulties ?
That would be good if they have tests like that. I was only aware my
Memory was Bad, but couldn't 'control that' or tell how bad it was.
Only *many years after my onset (again, not from ADHD), was I able to
look back and see how much it had improved, or how much more of this
%^&&&** computer stuff I can follow, that I couldn't 9 years ago.
I have a Generic Post that lists about 5 websites I had found
(includes howdy dave's and Julie's Idaho website) if you haven't seen
those. (They're in the History under Websites in the subject line).
If you'd like me to cut and paste it back Into the Group for you,
Reply Here (shorten this), and I'll look it up in my Folders for you.
)
Best wishes from 'the centre of the universe'... People in Canada
know where that is... :-> G./

I had Right Temoral Surgery 8 years ago. Interestingly, I still had
mild seizures after the surgery even with taking medication. The
seizures progressively stopped, and now I am seizure-free without
medication. I has seizures for 25 years prior to the surgery, so it
took me about 5 years to beleive that I am really healed. Once I
accepted that I was healed, the remaining seizures have stopped too.
I am praising my Lord Jesus Christ for the miracle that He delivered me
from this.

I had a right temporal lobectomy 6 years ago. I was 41 at the time, if you
have any questions ask away or if you'd like I can email you directly.

I had a left temporal lobectomy almost 13 years ago. I have been
seizure free ever since. I completely came off the tegretol 3 years
ago when the auras almost completely stopped. It really changed my
life around. You can read more about my surgeries on my web site here:
http://www.highego.com/aboutme/epilepsy.htm. I can tell you right now,
the hardest thing afterwards is adjusting to be seizure free.
Feel free to ask me any questions.
