first of all, I have TLE (right side), tried all meds, currently on
Keppra & Tegretol (10 weeks seizure free-another 6 weeks for a personal
best), so I reckon I know a little about epilepsy.
However, the reason for the post is not to do with me.  Recently my
daughter's started dating a young chap who also claims to have epilepsy.
Says he doesn't have "grand mals", just partials.  Refuses to go on
medication, & says he can stop his seizures (fair enough - I've done it
myself through relaxation techniques), but also says he gets extremely
aggressive after an episode.  This isn't something I've come across
before.  Obviously I'm concerned for my daughter's welfare, but I can't
condemn the lad out of hand. Has anyone else experienced aggression
after an episode?

Boy, I wish I knew what this young man means by aggression.  Since you and
he have the same kind of seizure disorder (I have complex partials myself)
maybe you could talk to this young man about your mutual seizure disorder.
Maybe this kid doesn't understand the fear component with this kind of
seizure disorder.  Maye this kid should at least TRY an anti-convulsant to
see if it would help him get a handle on the aggression.

One of the reasons I sought medical attention for my seizures, and this has
always been embarrassing to me, is because I was so paranoid I thought I
might hurt myself or someone else.  I also had an extremely exaggerated
startle response, and I was just waiting for the time when someone would
startle me and I would knock them off their feet (unintentional of course).

If this young man means aggressive as in anger, yeah, I think it is a
possibility.  I had some anger that wasn't the same, didn't feel the same,
as the fear component mentioned in the preceding paragraph.  It didn't seem
to be associated with a seizure however, although anti-convulsants seemed to
control that anger somewhat.

thanks for the replies.  She's dumped him (not, I hasten to add, due to
the epilepsy, he was demanding too much of her time).

Best Wishes in verticality.

hi

about a month ago i became aggressive after a seizure. i was on a bus to my
partner's  house when i was getting off the bus i started. i'm on tegretol
at the moment. my partner and parents were shocked at the aggressiveness i
displayed that night, abusive to the ambulance staff and emergency staff at
the hospital. for me this has only started since i have been on tegretol and
my docs are trying to get me off tegretol.

aparently i have been displaying this for a couple of months, to the point
where my flat mate has asked me to move out. i have a double whammy effect
going on, i am doing 2 degrees at  unis this semester, and without my
medications working anymore, its like not being on meds at all. is this guy
pushing himself too hard to the point where he is taking it out on others,
thats what my friends think is going on with me
