Hi

I am on  Tegretol retard 600mg a day, Lamotrigine 150mg a day and Frisium
10mg a day.  I was on 1200 Tegretol, but under observation by my Consultant
have reduced, with no attacks since 1990.

Should i continue to reduce my Tegretol?  I have been told the risks on my
medication are about 9% of some physical/mental problems.  If i come off
Teretol altogether they reudce to about 7%.  If i then come off Frisium down
to 5%.

What should I do?  Any advice?

Thanks

Isabelle

What does your Dr. say?  You were reducing it (above) with Dr.
supervision.  I don't know anything about Lamotrigine, but thought that
both Frisium and Tegretol (the latter for sure) can produce withdrawal
effects if stopped promptly.  During Childbirth, I would have thought
that's what the child would experience? (prompt withdrawal of a
medication that's shared between your and the child's bloodstreams).
Are they saying (below at ***s) that there's *still a 5% risk of
physical or mental problems for the child, from the Lamotrigine, even
if you stopped the other 2?   Howdy Dave is the statistician if he's
still around, but that still seems like a high risk when it involved
the future of a child.    Just my 2 cent's worth anyway.
(Read the group for 3-8 days at least.  Some people who still post
don't read the posts every day, so might have other comments or
*experiences of their own to share that might help.   I still would
have thought the Dr. should provide more input.  If you haven't had any
seizures since 1990, even while on the pills listed, I don't know if
that could mean you have  'outgrown them'  or that the pills combined
continued to give stable control.
On Tegretol CR (400mg), Frisium (20mg), and different gender, I
haven't had a seizure since 1998.  In 1993, they told me to expect 2-3
a month. )
If you didn't get a Printout from your Pharmacy when you first
filled prescriptions, they might have one for Each Pill, that mentions
e.g."tell your Dr. if you plan to become pregnant" -- I *think that's
on the Tegretol page I had, and possibly Frisium.  I don't know about
the other one. The US Ep. Foundation site has a Medications Glossary
with a Printable button after a page is found.   EFA was at
http://efa.org , click on Medications? and either search or type in the
pill and click search .  )   G./
