Ok, I had a 24 hr EEG done 2 weeks ago and had 5 seizures recorded.  they all
lasted between 20-40 seconds, and the one in my sleep lasted for 38 seconds.
I'm not exactly shocked or upset.  More relieved he didn't just tell me I was
crazy like my 2nd neuro did.  And, I'm glad to know that I absolutely cannot
be kicked out of my dance classes or out of the program for this! haha.  I
just don't really understand why I am fine my whole life and now I'm 23 and
have epilepsy?  I have multiple seizures almost every day.  They are partial
complex and secondary generelized I guess.  interesting, to see the brane
waves while I spazzed out though!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I can just see the eyes roll and the cogs turning in the
heads of people who haven't been there.

For those not in the know -- DIAGNOSIS is a major
step!

No more worrying about your mental health or
your sanity...

This is all due to something PHYSICAL!

Exactly.  case and point.
I think my neuro and his nurse were actually a lot more upset than I was!  I
was um.....sort of excited!  I know that does sound absolutely crazy, but
when you go through what I have the past 10 months, worrying every single day
if I will be kicked out of dance that day, if and when and where I will have
a seizure (or questioning if I'm really insane like my 2nd neurologist seemed
to think), if someone is going to call an ambulance if I have one in a public
place and desparately not wanting them to, etc, etc, etc.  I was very
interested to see my brain waves though as I was having those seizures.  My
neuro made me some coffee yesterday morning.  cute.  I asked him if he could
print the section of one of the bad seizures.  :-)  I just want to show
everyone who just blew me off and told me it was just "nutrition."  So many
people have just assumed that, and it's NOT.  And I"m glad.  I knew it was
something else.

I'm excited that I can't be kicked out of my dance classes now and that I can
file for disability services.  Before, I couldn't w/o a definite diagnosis.
I'm starting to get a little more stressed now though, wondering if I will
have to deal with this the rest of my life, and worried about taking anti
seizure meds because I"m scared of them!  I also worry constantly about
having the bad seizures where I collapse, in public because I absolutely hate
anyone except my very, very close friends who have helped me through them to
see me in that condition.  Actually, my paretns haven't even seen me like
that yet!  I also dont' like the fact that i have several seizures every day,
but hopefully that'll be fixed soon.  And I really don't understand how I can
be fine all my lfe and now at my age, have epilepsy?  It sort of baffles me
because I could understand the mutliple daily seizures maybe if I had some as
a kid. but um.....no.  The only thing I wonder about is that I have read
meningitis can sometimes cause them.  IT sort of makes me wonder if something
went wrong somewhere because I had meningitis as a premature baby in the
hospital before I weighed 5 pounds.  But then, wouldn't something have been
caught a lot sooner in life?  I just don't know and I probably never will.

Now that you have been diagnosed there is a whole slew of
"rights of passage" that you will traverse in the immediate, near
and distant future.

Hang in there!

Don't feel bad. I didn't have my first seisure until I was 32 years old.
No family history no brain injury just in the middle of the night I
started shaking and my wife called EMS. WH=hen the Tech came into the
bed room the first thing he asked my wife "does he have Epilepsy". I
have been uncontrolled sinse then. I right temporal lobe and grand mal
seisures. I have tried just about every med on the market and either
they don't work or I have adverse reactions to them. I have tried the
VNS and brain surgery. Right now I take 1200mgs of Carbatrol, 25mgs of
lexapro and 2mgs og zonagram a day and I still have seisures.       Mike

Glad to hear you finally got your diagnosis.  What I like about your
response is your attitude.  Some people get so upset when they hear
they have a seizure disorder, and you are excited to know what is going
on.  You are a good example.

Take care,
Julie
