My wife has been on Epalim and Epanutin, for 30 years, her liver enzymes
are sky high so the doctor has advised a switching programme to Keppra.
I see a few posts talking of it "heightening" feelings of depression how
severe is this compared to how good an anti convulsant it is.

My doctor switched me from Lamictal to Keppra when the Lamictal quit
working. It took less than a month for it to make me so unstable I was
asking to be put in a hospital so I wouldn't kill myself. I was truly that
scared. They took me off Keppra fast! But that was just me - these drugs
work differently on each person. There are generalizations but really the
only way to know the effect it will have on an individual is to try it, and
monitor side effects VERY closely.
For me, I think it got so bad because I was ashamed. I am a strong willed
person and I thought I could just hold on and work through it because I so
desperately needed to be seizure free. I finally went to my doctor and we
talked and he realized what bad shape I was in. He convinced me to tell my
husband everything I had told him and together the three of us got me
through the Keppra side effects. There is no doubt it was the drug because
I'd never been like that before and as soon as the drug got out of my system
and I'd had a couple of weeks of NOT feeling crazy I'm back to my old
self.... and trying to find a drug that will work. GOOD LUCK. Keep trying!

I've been on keepra for 4 years about now. It makes you extreamly
fatigued. I still take a small amount of anti-dep just to off shoot
it's side effects like 10 mg a day not much at all.

Howdy soup!
As with any AED... Keppra works for some people
and it doesn't work for other people.
There are never any guarantees.

Yeah, I'm sure it's true, but I used to take it together with tegretol for
about 6 months and it did absolutely nothing for me. When my neuro' added
zonisamide though, the three meds started to work in harmony with each
other, and although I still have several types of seizures, they've
started to lessen to about 1-2 bad falls per month instead of 3-4.
Very pleased and satisfied patient!!
