My 1st post here. I'm _surprised_ to be posting here. Married in May
2005 after meeting six months earlier.
In May 2006, my wife had a siezure. I had returned home from work,
showered, ate, we both got in bed, she talked for 20 minutes. I
finally said 'I want to sleep for 20 minutes and then we can go for a
walk.' Less than a minute of quiet passed, something seemed wrong so
I touched her. She was rigid, having a seizure. A few minutes passed
where her eyes rolled back, bubbles came from the mouth, seemed like
only a slow final exhale of bubbles. The bubbles stopped for about 15
seconds. I thought she might be dead. Then another very ragged
breath began and I dialed 911. By the time she arrived at the
hospital she was alert. We walked out of the hospital at about 8pm.
She told me about the "noise" she had in her head as the seizure
began; sort of a big rushing wind. EEG was done a few days later.
Later, visited a neurologist who reviewed EEG and saw no problems.
After reading Internet web pages, I thought 'she's rail thin, maybe
some supermodel seizure syndrome.' We try to eat more and now she's
~10 pounds (4-5 Kgs) heavier.
In Aug 2006, one day, about 1pm, she said she could control or stop
the "noise" in her head. A few hours later, in the car, she had her
second seizure. Eyes roll back. Body semi-rigid. No bubbles this
time. Breathing rough, but not appearing to stop. When she started
to talk a little (right after what appeared to be dream-acting) I
returned to the drivers seat and started for home. A few minutes
later she said 'where are we?' I explained. She said she had a
Terrible headache. 30 minutes later, we returned home; by this time
we both felt no need for the hospital emergency room.
she: 25, 104 lbs (47 Kgs), 5'7" (172 cm).
request:
Dr. or clinic recommendations (we live near Alexandria, VA).
Best Dr. or clinic descriptions.
Headache treatment recommendations.
Book (publication) recommendations.
Child bearing information, women's day is overdue.
Other recommendations a.e.s posters think could be useful.

Hi C. Zure - my first seizure was at age 40, shortly after the death of
my younger brother, Other concurrent events were the death of my
grandmother and the end of my marriage. Since then, with or w/o meds
the seizures have been pretty consistent at about one every three
weeks, All the fancy tests come up normal, as in your wife's case.
I take my dilantin not because it controls the seizures but because I
am a burden on society and I can say I am following the doctor's
orders.
I believe that epilepsy is not a disease but a fairly rare human
condition that can have the benefit of causing some of us to look at
old things in new ways - what I call "new eyes." However, there are
dangers, and I recommend that when your wife gets one of those warnings
(what they call the "aura"), that she get low to the ground so as not
to bang something badly.
Good luck with your journey. Tim

The clinic locations given in the "epilepsy and ataxia" post will be the ones
that I'm sure you'll want to look at also. Perhaps the most important part for
starters will be an accurate diagnosis, as there is no assurance that she
actually has epilepsy. Many of us with epilepsy show nothing on the type of EEG
you described and it's surprising that an MRI or CT-Scan wasn't run to check for
a tumor or other physical abnormality. A patient history of head trauma,
meningitis, high-fever, or other events could assist in dianosis. The
circumstances around the first seizure there could sound as though you both
weren't getting much sleep and lack of sleep is a known trigger for seizures.

Thanks to you all for the replies. I felt guilty for a couple days
after my original post because of the name I used (C. Zure). I was
trying to set up the newsreader program quickly. I found some very
active news boards at www.epilepsy.org and I spend time looking
through the posts. Lots of information to filter through. Cause and
effect. I'll probably look in this group occasionally. Good luck to
all here. Later.

Howdy C!
Take a look at:
http://www.naecepilepsy.org/centers/centers.html
This site does not list every epilepsy center, just the ones
associated with the National Ass'n of Epilepsy Centers.
