I have a 4 year old daughter with Tuberous Sclerosis and curently on
Tegretol to control her epilepsy. The doctor would like to trial Topomax for
her. Has anyone tried this and what do you think?

Howdy Dan!

I was on Topamax.

I experienced MASSIVE mood swings. Almost got violent once or twice.

g'day dan,
i found topomax great for weight loss, but it almost turned me into a basket
case.

My son only has Epilepsy with no other complications. He has been taking
Topomax for 18 months (give or take) and has had pretty good control of his
Tonic Clonic seizures. His ability to focus has been poor but this would
appear to be more the result of the unchecked Absence seizures than a
side-effect of the Topomax. With the addition of Lamictal he is in much
better shape.

Long term, as I recall from reading the PDR, Topomax is pretty mild...but I
could be mistaken. Hope this helps!

Can (and I emphasize "can") cause cognitive slowing,
mood swings, kidney stones. Others tolerate it with
minimal side effects.

I have a TS client taking suspension Dilantin and suspension
Depakote with pretty good results.

I went from tegretol to topamax hoping to get less side effects. I lost so
much weight and started having seizures again. I didn't even have an urge to
eat anything and I always felt sick to my stomach.
