I have a rare form of epilepsy known as subictal dysphoric disorder. I
haven't posted here in quite some time, normally I am in
alt.support.depression and have been having problems taking out some of
the anger by posting online. I will list my medications in a moment,
but would appreciate any discussion or suggestions on what could be
causing this. I think I may have been affected by hypnosis of some
kind. Voices I have are triggering and can be angered at times.
Generally I take Tegretol, Serequel, Resperdol, Cymbalta, Remeron, and
Lorazepam. This is very important, I don't really understand what
causes it. The illness is kin to Temporal Lobe Syndrome and can be
recorded on an EEG. I don't have visiable seizures except for some
twitches. Would appreciate any comment.

I also have extreme surges of rage. I never had these until I had been
taking Keppra for about a month. It does seem to work on my grand
mals, but having a terrible, out-of-control, raging temper might could
get me into more trouble than it's worth. It doesn't take much to set
me off, that's for sure.
As to the hearing voices thing, this is concomitant with a lot of
serial (or just regular) murderers. You need to contact your doctor
ASAP and tell s/he/it about this. If they want to diagnose you (for a
goodly price), then let them also treat you and get this fixed.
Personally, if I were on that many medications, I'd be a zombie.
Good luck.

Just from looking at the list of meds, I'd say you're over-medicated. I can
remember, as a kid being on anti-convulsants with what I know now was some kind
of anti-depressant. All of it together acted a lot like what I've heard about
that med for kids they use these days. About 15 years ago I tried
anti-depressants but they made me more spaced out than pulling me together.
Ditched them quick.
When my seizures began recurring, I made it clear to my doctor I would ditch
any med completely--simply stop--if it began to plays games with my conscious
focus. Dilantin and valproate do their job, stay out of my head except to do
what they are required to do, and endure the occasional headache, insomnia, etc.
But I think you should get a second opinion about the need for so much
medication just to be on the safe side.

After Topamax (Topiramate) I am very cautious myself. But it is very difficult
to tell when you have dimmed cognitive skills (I assume that is what you mean by
"conscious focus"). It reminds me of when people expect me to remember what I
forgot.

Ah, _you're_ supposed to remember, but _they_ can conveniently forget. Hold
them to the same standard for a week with all the nagging you take and see how
they like it. I need to concentrate on certain types of tasks, especially the
ones that put you in the middle of four or five things at the same time.
Yesterday, for instance, I was putting together signs for the incumbent NDP
candidate here in Halifax, for the provincial election. Nailing them to stakes,
punching holes for ties to re-inforce the cardboard in the wind, threading the
ties, and clipping them. For anyone else it sounds simple enough, it took me an
hour just to finish three signs until I hit my stride and had a nice pile aside
by the time others left to stake them out on reserved lawns.
Put me on something that screws my focus and others are liable to think, if
he's not drunk, he's tipsy, at the least. Doctors don't concern themselves with
this part of daily living; they leave adjusting up to us for the most part. I
got tired of people from my parents, brothers/sister, to nurses, and teachers,
telling me this was for my own good. Now, I make sure that I can get used to a
drug within 3 wks; if it fiddles with my head, the doctor is responsible, not
me, for fixing it.

Tegretol is one of the medications used to treat Temporal Lobe seizures
(search under Complex Partial szrs.-- a newer term that includes what
used to be called T.L. on older studies). It's also used for some
post-stroke?, heart and other conditions. Lorazepam is a relaxant that
I used a few times while I was getting control. I have no info/
experience with the others.
With the Tegretol, I assume it's a controlled release type?
(XR/CR/Retard-- depends which country you're in), but it's important to
take the dose rate the Dr. has set+ *Not stop abruptly or skip doses,
as those can trigger szrs. by doing that. Grapefruit Juice, Alcohol,
upset stomach remedies can all interfere with levels of Tegretol. You
could try a search under Tegretol and depression? via google or ?? but
any of the other 4? could also aggravate that possibly. Your
Pharmacist might have printouts or websites for each pill unless you
find much under http://efa.org, which has a med. site specific to
seizure pills (like Tegretol and Lorazepam).
Mood swings are not uncommon to several of the szr. types including
our's (T.Lobe) since that is an area which controls some of the
emotions, as well as short term memory.
Are these happening during periods when seizures etc. are
'uncontrolled' for you? or do they happen other times too? If it's the
former more, I'd hope that some adjustments to med. doses to get nearer
control might help. It's worth bugging the Drs. about, as more stable
control will help with mood stuff and side effects. *I don't know e.g.
how those other meds. 2-5 you listed might interfere with each other Or
the Tegretol. The last one is a relaxant, and few times I used it
(sublingual type) I often fell asleep within an hour or two. G./
