Hi everyone,
I am new here and just wanted to say hi and introduce myself a little
to all of you.
I am a single mother of one daughter who just turned 22. I am 42 years
old and have been
disabled for nearly four years with a seizure disorder reffered to as
Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures. (P.N.E.S.) They are brought on by
certian triggers. Sever headaches, stress, certian odors or smells, and
sometimes not eating enough during the day. I was told I do have
epilepsy but maybe only 2 seizures in a 6 month period.
I have not taken any type of medications now for nearly 8 months.
>From my last head injury (from seizure), I now have some memory
loss.(short term memory)
I hope to make new friends and get support and encouragement for the
not so good days I have been having lately.
Take care everyone,
Junebug1

Hi. About 2? days ago I posted a note with about 5-6 websites
related to seizures I've found over last few years, or of people who
post here often. With respect to the triggers related to stress,
odours, low blood sugar etc. have a look at Complex Partial or Simple
Partial seizure types. Sometimes the first can end in loss of
consciousness if not controlled, while the 2nd might just produce
dizziness or disorientation but without the loss above.
*Both types, if they originate in one of the Temporal Lobes of the
brain, can affect short term memory and learning ability. A few people
have posted over the years about non-ep szrs., but with above
descriptions, I wondered how they might have decided they were *non-ep
based versus, e.g. simple partial types?
I have the T.Lobe type, so wondered if you also might get sensation
of Lemon tastes or odours, or Eggy/acrid tastes or aromas that aren't
there too, from time to time? Or a sensation of Deja Vu or Jamais Vu?
(latter happens if you are temporarily unaware where you are, even if
you're at home.)
Those are the auras of (respectively) Right Temporal lobe or Left
T.Lobe-based seizures (i.e. the electric firing starts there). If you
remain aware during the event, it's usually grouped under Simple
Partial seizures. Loss of consciousness, or awareness of some of them
could be Complex partial type.
*Usually (not always), those 2 different types would show up on an
EEG test. Some people here don't register on that test, as the erratic
electric firing has to occur during the test, for it to register. But
if they did, there are some milder medications that can treat that.
The Memory part is harder. If there was older damage to one of those
areas 4? years ago, from infection, injury or other effect, some of it
can gradually improve. Or it could take longer. The worst of mine was
~1979 (no szrs.), but took to ~1985 for most of the memory stuff to
improve. Seizures didn't start until 1993, and those were controlled
about 1996. But some of memory effects are still around - I notice
mostly when I go to 'a new screen' loading something, and the software
expects me to remember what I had just typed on an earlier one. I also
noticed it today, when I wrote a check and had to look up the Year,
before I filled in that part... :-<
If some of that looks like what you experience, you might find
information in links mentioned, at simple partial or complex partial
(newer term used now for T.Lobe+ seizure types.) G./
(If you see a post w. links I did ~1-2 days ago, under the First Aid
for Seizures (Idaho website), behaviours of each type are described
there. )

Welcome to the ng Junebug. Sorry to hear you have been having some "not
so good days lately". I've been having a few of those myself. But I
do feel positive about the progress I plan to make. I'm changing meds
right now, so that has been a challenge. I've been working a little
from home and doing some volunteer work, actually teaching people about
the Bible, which can be very encouraging.
Yesterday I challenged myself by going to a job assignment. (These are
clients that I do freelance work for, design and maintain their website,
legal assistant, even sit in for their receptionist). Yesterday it was
pretty simple reception work and a few other tasks. I was so tired. I
had the flu earlier in the week, I haven't been sleeping well, taking
extra drugs and then I was able to work 8 hours at an attorney's office.
It was strange because I found that I really had to focus on the
simplest things. But everyone was very supportive. One of the
attorneys was so cute, she said "Julie, you really look good". I said
"you mean I don't look drugged"? I knew there was a light at the end of
the tunnel and was happy to rest when I got home from work.
Even though it would have been much easier on me to say no to the
request to work just one day, I wanted to see if I could do it. I
haven't been out much, and this was getting up early and no napping. I
kept looking at the clock and saying "ALRIGHT I'M GOING TO MAKE IT" -
and I did ;-) Of course it did help that there were donuts and the
chocolate donut in the afternoon really helped.
Take care,
