Hey!

I'm is an Epileper.

I have Epileprosey.

People treat me like I am contagious. Like my seizures can be spread through
contact. I have had people run from me when I told them I felt a seizure
coming on. Others have left me and never come back once they have seen what
a status epilepticus episode does to a person.

You have epilepsy, so you are an epileper, too. People without it think you
are weird, face it and shut up.

Keep walking.

Regular people think sick people should be avoided. They don't want to hear
about being sick. One day they will wake up wounded. God bless them.

Screw this I am an epileptic / I have epilepsy;  if you got it or you is
one - either way -  a grand mal is a bitch, so quit bitching.

Be strong.

Howdy Mark!

Sounds like you came to about the same conclusion that I did.

If they are afraid of it or can't handle it, I'm probably better off without
them anyway. At best they might be casual acquaintences, they will never be
friends in the true sense of the world.

If you can't accept me for being me, epilepsy and all, well then - you can
just kiss off! I don't need your excess baggage.

Not the same I have come to. I make sure that most people know I have
epilepsy even though it is controlled. Their reaction tells me so much
about the person.

If they run away, they are not the sort of person I want to know.

If they stay, they are OK.

If they say a member of their family has epilepsy, they know what it's
like, and can understand the problems.

If they start asking questions out of curiosity, they are open minded
people with a wish to know more about the world. Just the sort of person
I want to know, and we'll probably end up deeply embedded in a
discussion about the nature of consciousness and reality within quarter
of an hour.

So let them know. Their reaction tells you far more about them then your
comment tells them about you. If we all let them know, people would
realise that it's a *common* condition, but somehow we're all so
reticent to say it. Choose the right time, then let's spread the word!

Howdy Malcom!

Sounds about like my process too! If somebody has a problem with my epilepsy
I'd rather know about it right up front.
