BTW, while I was updating our site I realized that some of the website
didn't get transfered to our new server, so if any of you were looking
for information previously online, sorry about any inconvenience.
Please let me know if you see hyperlinks that are not working.

I hope you don't mind but I linked the above site in a computer related
newsgroup. I am thinking about possibly writing an article for a computer club I
belong to.

That is fine, Dave.  I got permission from the Epilepsy Foundation to
publish their article to our website and credited them.  I thought the
info. was very useful.

The newsgroup seems to be enjoying it. There is talk about the technical
differences between LCD and CRT, and the way a Cathode-Ray-Tube can cause
flickering. The "how it works" post compares the CRT to an old radar screen with
the sweeping needle. I never thought of that.

The computer club could use the facts clarified. There are many thoughts about
how this issue will affect the computer-using universe. The few working
consultants (the mean age is about 60) needs to know about the needs others may
have.

BTW; do you have any tips for someone who is starting Webmastering in a
volunteer environment?

I am planning on starting a web-site for a Toastmaster club I'm in. I was
thinking of using either ColdFusion or Java. Right now I'm leaning more on
ColdFusion because of it's development time and that I already/soon will have
something to showcase my skills in Java.

The next time I see my epileptologist is the 18th of this month.  The
last time I saw him I had a question from this ng.  I'll have him
consider this question for us.  He is a young enough doctor that this
may have been something they discussed while he was at Stanford
University Medical Center.

For those of you interested in my new neurologist here are a couple
articles about Dr. Wechsler.

I think it is great to use your skills as a volunteer.  Your work will
be greatly appreciated.  I also have been able to help the Idaho offices
with technical issues when dealing with their website hosting service.
Some technical issues can seem rather overwhelming for our clients.

I pride myself in working very hard to meet my clients needs, my
business is called Internet Success.  So one recommendation would be to
determine what is needed, and how best to meet that need.  Some times
our clients don't know all the possibilities, so we need to do some
brainstorming.  The website I continue to maintain for the Epilepsy
Foundation of Idaho started out as just straight HTML code which my son
designed when he was 15, that has been almost 10 years ago.

Even though I took web design classes, because of my health I chose to
only work with few clients.  So being able to be the volunteer webmaster
for the Epilepsy Foundation of Idaho has given me opportunities to
practice my web design skills.  Right now I can look through the site
and see various stages of my development.  My plan is to redesign the
site, but when that will happen will depend on my time and scheduling.

For now I am using Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Photoshop because that is
what I am comfortable using. I've been playing around with Flash, but I
don't know that there will be a need for this product in the EFI site.
Although if I get the new product I could see the possibility of
creating a flash movie of a doctor discussing a seizure, or the kids
puppet demonstration that is given at the schools.  Of course it would
be nice to have a digital video camera too.  Any body have any
connections to Oprah?

My plan for the redesign will utilize css, and I'm waiting until my
finances can afford it before I upgrade to the latest version
(Macromedia Studio 8).  You know how that goes, almost every year there
is a new version.  It seems like I just bought the latest thing. :-(

Best wishes,
Julie

I just opened a shared account at GoDaddy's to practice with Java. Now that I
know JSP/servlets/beans I'm thinking of doing it for money. Do you have a
preferred provider?

I used to make extra money with freelance programming or building custom PCs.
I'm thinking of moving into independent Webmastering. I was thinking of finding
pornography sites because I hear they make so much money I wouldn't need to
worry about threatening my SSI-DI check.

If I can, I leave graphic design to others. I either overdo the design so it
looks almost like a Dali but harder to understand or I under do it so that
others find it boring. There seems to be a balance I haven't grasped yet.

I avoid both Dreamweaver and Flash. I hate sites with flash and I find any HTML
IDE makes ugly code that is difficult to modify. My favorite development tool is
notepad although I'm thinking of going to VIM.

Why wait? Just do it by hand. The worst part of CSS is the different
implementation by different browsers. Reminds me of the IE/NETSCAPE wars.
