Last wed I had a seizure temporal lobe and Im still regaining memory.
I blacked out the last 4 months expecially the last eight weeks.
While im recovering I find myself very tired but most annoying is
recalling events and feelings associalted with things that have
happpened years ago. Is this common. For example I woke up friday
and had forgot my mother passed away 6 weeks ago. Any Input would be
appriated.
Thank You
Mike

Did they tell you which (left or right) of the Temporal Lobes they
think is damaged, and do they have any idea what might have caused it?
(Car accident, head injury, infection like Encephalitis, Childhood
onset or ?? )
Are you currently taking any Anti Seizure medications? (Dilantin,
Tegretol, Frisium, etc.) If you give us the *names of any pills,
others might have ideas to reply to.
Depending on the extent and cause of the damage, the Temporal Lobes
are the 'short term memory buffers' where New Information and learning
gets filed before we move it to longer term storage (elsewhere in our
brain). Damage to one of those Lobes can affect reading, remembering
what you read, recall of what someone just said to you, and other
memory effects. *Other areas of the brain can have memory effects
too, but since mine is from the *right Temporal Lobe, that's the main
area where I had experiences from before my seizures, and then during
treatment and above medications I listed.
Are you still having seizures ? or are they controlled now? Even if
seizures are controlled by medications, we (you and I) can still be
prone to Mood Swings, periods of dizziness or disorientation, and
feelings of Deja Vu (if damage is Right T.Lobe) of Jamais Vu (never
seen-- where our own place might be strange to us -- if damage is in
the Left Temporal Lobe).
Do you get any Auras like above 'Vu's' (French for Already seen or
Never seen), or strange Tastes or Aromas that you know aren't really
there (usually Lemony or Sour, to Eggy and Foul = Right or Left Lobe).
If you've been having those for a Long Time, you probably don't even
notice them or perceive them as our 'new normal' now, so you might not
be aware they are being caused by Electrical firing in one of those
Lobes.
Those sorts of things (feelings or aromas) are often used by Doctors
as a non-invasive way of seeing which area of the Brain any Electric
activity is occuring, even before they've run an EEG or MRI to look for
Damage or Electrical storms. They can get a feeling for what we're
experiencing without needing a Needle, Scalpal or anything gross.
*If the Memory effects, you describe, started when your Seizures
started, there's a good possibility that the 2 are related to one
another. So the same damage or trauma? that is causing any seizures,
is also messing with the electrical circuits that affect those areas of
the brain (above) too.
At my first onset (before the seizures by 14 years), I needed a
notepad to find the buses I'd used for more than 3 years. As time
passed, I found I needed those less and less, but when my Seizures
started, it took about 3 years to get them under control and have
things settle down so that I could relax and not get the Auras that
*started me* worrying, whether I was about to have a Full Seizure
(where I'd lose consciousness for 10 minutes to several hours). It was
usually when I started that Worrying once I felt the Aura, where I
could actually make things worse by getting more upset about what might
happen.
(The Temporal Lobes affect Emotions, and in some Cultures were called
The Seat of the Soul, since they're supposed to be Where we store "Who
we are" within. Also if we get Upset too much, we can affect the
functioning within the T.Lobes and make a minor Aura worse than it
would be, than if we were able to Relax and let it go... That was one
of the harder things I had to learn to do, and still slip from time to
time. But I don't have seizures any longer, as the Pills I use now
control those. )
Others may have other suggestions too of what works for them, and
how they handled this, when you tell us some more about whether you
take any pills, and which ones, and whether the Doctors told you what
types of seizures you've had. Also *this is an International Group,
so we have about 12 of the timezones reading the group when they get
time, so you could get other replies over next few days as others see
the posts. So check the Message thread for reply over that sort of
time, and see what comes up.
(I sort my messages on this group by Message Thread, so that replies
who keep the same Subject Line, stay together even when they're posted
over several days to a week after the Original post, by the way. )

Thank you for the input I guess im just looking for someone else who
might even remotely understand what im talking about. The other
feelings im still having this week is tired and emotional flash backs
i get strong feelings that triger memories from when i was younger,
sort of flash backs and this is a week later. Its hard to put into
words, also im not used to talking about feelings.
Anyway thankyou for the support and input

I've had symptoms very much like that myself. In fact, I've been thinking about
starting a thread about "Deja vu" just to hear what people who have it say it
is. I hear it mentioned a lot, but if it's what I have and what I hear you
saying, it's like the reverse of what I understand real Deja vu to be.
My own seizure history is of simple & complex partial seizures going back as far
as my choldhood and possibly to birth. That's unclear as I had a couple of
incidents when younger that could have caused my condition. Before my meds
brought me under some reasonablle degree of control, by own seizures were almost
always accompanied by a flashback of my younger life just like yours. In fact,
I've always felt that they were not just a flashback, but a flashback to a
seizure that I was having at that younger point in my life.
I've also lost effective memory of large chunks of my life and rely on my wife
to fill me in. That and I am extremely forgetful in recent times, probably
because of the drugs. Yet strangely enough, I can recall a lot of my childhood
now better than I ever could before.
I saw your original posts and it was almost as though you would post and forget
that you had and then post again. Am I right? I intended to reply as those
flashbacks you are having are probably seizures.

That's a good idea, I'll be watching for your new thread.
Take care,
