Both my children were born at the hospital.  I tried using (OK here we
go - brain not working) the natural child bird method that was
recommended back in the 70's.  Help me out here people ;-)

Things went fine, except the nurses freaked out toward the end because
they seemed rather concerned that I might have a seizure.  Basically I
just wanted to take my phenobarbital and keep going with no drugs.  They
finally gave me a shot, but I don't know what it was.  But it felt like
natural child birth and I didn't have a seizure.

For my second child my husband and I had classes for the Bradly Method
of natural child birth.  This time I was successful in having my child
with NO meds for the child birth.  Of course I continued to take my AED
(anti-epileptic drug).  I didn't even have medication for the apesiatomy
(not sure how to spell that - it has to do with when the babies head
crowns).  Anyway, the doctor was very proud of me and so was I.

The most difficult part with both births was trying to relax while
listening to the other women screaming bloody murder.

So you learn to focus, different types of breathing techniques, back rub
from hubby on the lower back was very important.  Both times I
recognized that the baby was coming and then I had to wait, which means
a different kind of breathing (blow it away) so you don't push before
the doctor is ready.

I highly recommend natural child birth.  But then I figured I could
handle it because I had such severe cramps during menstrual cycle that I
figured child birth couldn't be too much more difficult.  And guess what
- the cool thing is after I had a baby my cramps greatly decreased.

Take care,
Julie

I've a hunch that you're not thinking of Dr Spock :) so maybe you mean the
Bradley Method?

No, I used the Bradley method for our second child, I could remember it
and I do recommend it.  I still can't think of the other method.  "Oh,
if I only had a brain!" ;-)

Well, it only took me about 15 minutes to look at several search engines
to figure this out.  It was driving me crazy.  It was the Lamaze method.
Remember that?  It must not be used much anymore, but there sure are a
lot of websites about natural child birth.

Take care,
Julie
