Hi all, I wrote back a few months ago. My 5 year old had a grandmal
seizure about 6 months ago. he's on Trileptal and has had none since.
Then last night, as he was falling asleep he started coughing and it
looked like he was unable to breathe. it didn't look like a seizure,
it looked like he just couldn't breathe. he had just fallen asleep.
and he sat up and started coughing and trying to breathe and he
couldn't seem to get any oxygen. i started to just pat his back. in
about 10-15 seconds, he was fine. then he went back to sleep, no
problem.
this has never happened to him before. any ideas what this may be?
could this have caused his seizure 6 months ago?
i will be taking him to his pediatrician on Monday, but i wanted to get
your thoughts and tips first.
Thanks,
Carla

Is the humidity low in your house? (Most times in winter, it's lower
than summertime.) You could ask the Dr. if using a humidifier might
help.
It didn't sound like any particular seizure. G./

Yes, I'm inclined to agree. A lot of us have heavy coughs and colds around
this time of year, and I really don't think it's anything to worry about.
All the best

Talk to your doctor. While it's probably nothing unusual, only the doctor can say.
