I haven't had any periods for a few years now but I can well-remember the
PMT I used to get and the associated fits. I only rarely had tonic/clonics
but my CPs tended to be more frequent and heavier (ie longer lasting and
more tiring).
I have since realised that my fits can sometimes be associated with low
blood sugar and it may be that is affected by losing blood. If your
appetite decreases near your period try to eat little and often.

Hi Debbie, when I was a teenager my monthly cycle was the time when I had
problems with seizures. It could be the added stress or it could be the
hormones. Here is some info. from the Epilepsy Foundation about women and
seizures.

Hello Debbie, I just wanted to say how the problems my monthly cycle seem
to happen exactly how Julie describes them above.
I only have about 2-3 single tonic-clonic seizures during the month, but
when I get my menstrual cycle, they seem to come in mega-amounts. I can
have anything between 3-6 seizures, in a space of 4-5 days.
I've been getting periods since I was 11 years old - which was also when I
was first diagnosed with having epilepsy after having a tonic-clonic in
the school playground, but the seizures still only seem to multiply in
number during my cycle, and the only explanation my neurologist can give
me is that it is a combination of extra stress around this time of the
month, together with the female hormones sort of going haywire just before
your cycle, and until it finally gets back to normal again.
Happy new year
Sofie

I’m not a female but I can point you to some websites that could very well
answer your questions. With what you’ve described it sound like you have
catamenial (KAT-uh-MEEN-ee-ul) epilepsy. The first site is one for
frequently asked questions, (I seem to have more seizures just before my
period. What can I do?) Hope it helps.

I forgot to say that epilepsy tends to stop or start at times when one's
hormones are changing more than usual i.e. puberty, pregnancy or menopause.
Mine started when I began to take contraceptive pills ie I was
artificially pregnant. I hope it would stop when I reached menopause but
it didn't. It has at least reduced it fit frequency and severity though.
