Hello. Newbie here.

My neurologist has sent me some samples of Zonegran to control my
simple partial seizures. Does anyone here currently take this, and if
so what side affects have you experienced? Also, how much does
a month's supply cost if you're taking 300 mg per day?

Thanks in advance.

My son takes Zonegran. For him the only real side effects he has had
are a slight loss of apetite and weight loss and some memory and
thinking slowing at higher doses. He is currently on 400mg.
I am not sure on cost, I think his was around $145 for a
month at 300, but I am not positive.
You can try and go to www.zonegran.com and see if they have
any resources for helping people afford this medication if you have no
drug insurance.
My daughter took this for a year and did have a growing
problem with anxiety as well as changes in how food tasted and lost 35
pounds. It was not a good med for her.

From all I have read, it seems to be either a love it or hate
it medication.
I hope it does well for you and will give you seizure control!

I've been taking 100 mg for three days now. I'm supposed to go up
to 200 mg after a week and then 300 after 2 weeks. I'm not sure if
I can tolerate this stuff because even at 100 mg I'm having problems
thinking and speaking. I'm wondering if it may be interacting with
the Dilantin I'm also taking. Does this get better with time?

That's much better than the Keppra I was on previously, which was
costing over $300 per month, also making me a zombie, and not
controlling the seizures.

I have been on Zonegran for one year now. It took a while but I went
from seizures everyday to having them every 10 days to 2 weeks. I also
am on 3 other AED. But once I was put on Zonegran  it just seemed to
slow the seizures down. I take 500mgs each night.
It does affect my appetite. About it affecting my mood with the other
AED's I take and the seizures I have I really don't think it made my
mood worse or better. But it is nice not having seizures everyday.Good
Luck! M Finney
