My boyfriend has epilepsy...

Dear all,

I have a question that's been bugging me a while now and I hope someone can
help me with it.

I've never given too much thought to my boyfriend's illness as he's been
taking Depakin for years and has had no problems whatsoever since. Hopefully
he never has to go through another seizure again. All fine and well. Well,
perhaps.

A while ago we decided to take a step further in our relationship... Without
beating about the bush, I'll just say it straight: if I swallow his semen, do
I get my own dosage of his epilepsy drugs and can expect to have the side
effects of the drug? The reason I'm asking is because I've been feeling
uncommonly tired lately, have had headaches and aches in my upper-arm muscles.
I might be coming down with the flu or something but I believe it would be
too big a coincidence that these "problems" started when we started... well
you know.

We spoke about it and he says I'm overreacting but I wouldn't be so sure. I
know how in breastfeeding everything that the mother takes, is transmitted to
the baby through her breast milk and my lay ignorance tells me this should be
no different.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Can anyone answer my questions and
help me get rid of the dilemma?

Any advice is more than welcome. Please...

You know, sometimes I even wish that you could catch something from your
partner's semen - after being married for over 18 years, it means I'd
probably be cured of my epilepsy by now!

All the best

I asked my neurologist that exact question five or six years ago,
because my wife of fidteen years is a very sensitive person. Small
things like MSG can make her very ill and I was concerned for her well
being. He assured me that anticonvulsent drugs are NOT excreted in a
man's semen, they can only be excreted by nursing mothers. So he told
me straight out to just enjoy not to worry about a thing. My wife
swallows me several days a week without any side effects. I have been
on high does of Dilantin and Mysoline, and I now take over 2 grams a
day of Depakote ER, so just let your guy enjoy!
