*** I removed sci.med.diseases.epilepsy (as it's still a disease on some
sites), and uk.people.support.epilepsy, since *I don't subscribe to or read
those groups, and don't want my address there. ****
As I was typing a reply to this, suggesting looking at US Ep. Foundation
site to see what's listed there, at http://efa.org -- scroll or click to
medications glossary, and type the name or scroll down to get a one-page
summary about it--> a **News Station I listen to just came on and said
that the Manufacturer? had just issued an advisory to Doctors regarding *5
different medications including Neurontin.... The other 4 medications were
not Anti Ep Medications that I recognize from here. The others are probably
manufactured by the same company?
I expect if there's not anything new on it under above site that you
wait a few days, to Monday? and see if anything is updated there, or you
could speak to your pharmacist in the meantime.
Several anti-ep meds. can have side effects for *some people or if
Stopped abruptly. (Tegretol should *not be stopped without a Dr. for
example.) Usually when side effects are found, they are added to the
Prescription Information I get, or sent to Doctors who might be prescribing
those and in a *better position to assess Risk vs. Benefits and also
interpret how any new information might apply to the patients they're
treating....
For the people here who *use Neurontin without incident, that article
could mean you might eventually have to find an alternate if the med. is
pulled from the shelves out of Fear of Lawsuits. I sometimes wish this
stuff could be sorted between the Pharmacies and the Neurologists, based on
cumulative patient history. *I don't want a Lawyer taking my blood levels
for me.. He wasn't there when I was first in hospital, and he was Nowhere
around as I adjusted each of 3 pills I took, over 4 years, to where I got
full control now (on just 2). ( *None were Neurontin as it turned out.)
I am saddened for the losses of families etc. who might have lost a
loved one in the process of seeking treatment for the conditions for which
this had been prescribed for them. But I don't think heading to Court will
help them to grieve or let go of their loved one.... G./

I was on Neurontin in 1996 and it gave me severe depression and I broke
out in severe acne. The idiot neurologist I had at that time put me on
130mg of Prednisone to clear up the rash. I was on that particular
ward of a particular hospital within 3 days for suicidal intentions.
Which could it be? I've heard both Neurontin and Prednisone have this
effect on a person. The psychiatrist called the neuro. and chewed him
out, saying that anybody diagnosed with depression (such as I already
was) should never get more than 40mg of Prednisone daily, if any at
all. Any ideas?
