G'day Gang
Just letting you know I haven't shuffled off this mortal coil. Been very
hectic over the last few months, I've shifted house, gained a major
promotion at work, and just recently unfortunately, I lost my father. And
through all these stressful events I've suffered nothing more than a few
very minor complex partials, go figure. But it is great to see most of the
old gang rattling around, GR, Julie, Dave, Mary et al. And it is great to
see how Hilary has had such success with her operation, six months!
Fantastic! I'll try not to be a stranger in future.

Stick around :-)

Howdy Pablo!

WATCH YOURSELF!!!

It's been my experience that when Mary says something like: "Stick around"
she usually has something up her sleeve!

I'm 100% non combatant. Well, I have my eating knife and a longbow but
they're never used in anger.

I have a tongue for that:-)

Hi Pablo.  I've been busy too.  Sorry to hear about your father.

I got to meet the new Director of the Epilepsy Center soon to be up and
running in Idaho.  It was exciting to hear about his reason to become a
neurologist who specializes in epilepsy.  I asked about going off medication
because I've gone for 10 years without a seizure.  His advice was to get to a
backup drug before I try to go off phenobarbital.  I plan to schedule an
appointment with my doctor next month and get a referrel to this neurologist.
I told him of my fear of new drugs because of the last time I tried new AEDs.
But he reminded me that it was about 20 years ago and there are a lot of new
meds since then.

Take care,
Julie

G'day Julie,
It's very hard to go away from something that works pretty well and set off
into the great unknown but I can understand your desire to get away from
using a drug like Phenobarbital. When I was about 4, when I had my first
seizure, the paediatrician that I was taken to see diagnosed me with
infantile convulsions and put me on a combination of Dilantin and
Phenobarbital and it seemed that I was doped out all the time, and this
lasted for 7 years until my mother stopped giving me the Phenobarbital and
all of a sudden I went from the lower half of the class at school to among
the top 5 or 6 (amazing what can happen when you are awake!). I hope it all
goes well for you and I guess he is right about there being new drugs out
there and you have to think that they would/should be an improvement on many
of the older ones.

All the best

Thanks, Pablo.  I'll keep you all informed about the change in drugs.  I am so
busy this month that I decided it was best to wait at least until next month.
Julie
