Does anyone else with this affliction have problems controlling what they
say or do?

Hi.  Do they have Medic Alert Bracelets where you live?   These are used in
North America to identify a person who might have had a seizure or heart
condition or other things which might render them unable to communicate.
There's a Call Collect Number (in North America) on the bracelet, your blood
type, and an Identification number that Doctors or Emergency responders can
call to find what conditions you have, and the computer keeps track of what
medicines you are using.

Several of the seizure types, once started, you will have *no control
what you do or memories of what happened.   For most of us it's just part of
who we are.   We don't consider it an affliction.
If you're able to get full control using medications many of our types
can be controlled completely or to a large extent.   Some people still have
them, although less often,  even using pills.   The last ones I had were
1997 and 1998, although I use the pills every day to control the electrical
firings that start the seizures.

Try these sites below.   The top one is the Idaho U.S.  Site that
includes a First Aid chart for Seizures on land, and seizures if you like to
swim or go out in water.    On the page is an option if you want to print
the page, that removes extra colouring and backgrounds for easy printing.
You can move to other topics inside the site once you get one of the
doorways to work.
The main seizure first aid page (that includes a description of what we
look like during each seizure type to others) is -->
http://www.epilepsyidaho.org/seizure2.htm  .  From there, you can get to the
main entry point or just go to http://www.epilepsyidaho.org  -- at Bottom
look at FAQs heading (click it) --> that's Frequently Asked Questions about
Epilepsy and misunderstandings others might have about the condition.

(Most of us don't regard this as an 'affliction' -- it's just part of
who we are and what happens with us,   like Freckles or Brown Hair.)

The U.S. General Epilepsy Foundation also has a main information site
that includes a Medications Glossary, if you are prescribed particular
pills.   Chances are they will appear in that section, and if you search it
out, they list things to avoid with any pills (usually alcohol)  plus how to
use them, if your Pharmacy didn't give you a page on the pills.    That US
Site address is http://efa.org  .

Let me know if you have trouble connecting to any of those, or post
here again if you have more questions.   (We usually have more questions, as
we learn more stuff about this, but the Idaho Site (Julie's)  and the EFA
site are a big head start, to save you having to learn many of these things
over again, when they're already in print.)     G./

Yeah, all the time!! I have about 5 of them every day, and usually wake
up if hubby claps his hands really loudly, or starts repeating my name
several times whilst asking me why I'm doing such a ludicrous, stupid
thing!

He always seems to laugh and find the event a bit of a joke, so I seem to
have learnt to think of it as a bit of a joke too, whilst at the same
time, learning to live with it.

Other members on the newsgroup have also admitted, like myself to have
even stolen petty goods from supermarkets now and again during our complex
partials, but thank goodness this doesn't happen too often!!!
