Another aura/SP question

Hi.
Although I am aware that auras/SPs may take many different forms, and
also vary from person to person, I'd like to know if anyone here share
my experience of having the senses all mixed up, so to speak. I'll try
to explain. Before having a tonic-clonic, I will start feeling weird/ill
perhaps until 10 hours before. To begin with, I can't really tell what
this feeling is, but as it develops and gets close to the seizure, I
will for instance, by thinking of the time 18:29, not see this as a
number or point of time, but rather something concrete, or with form. I
will also get the feeling that what may prevent the seizure, will be
something like crunching a sheet of paper inside me (in my head? in my
chest?), or putting to sheets of paper together. At least, this is how I
felt last monday . . . Sometimes, the number "2" will appear in my mind,
not very long before a seizure. Otherwise, I have never experienced any
sounds or smells or anything else shortly before a seizure.
Does this sound like an aura/SP at all, or should I see a  . . psych
something? :-) (Yes, I have checked the Idaho websites and the others as
well . . )

cheers,
ole k

Like you say, things do vary from person to person.  One thing I share with you is that time gap between the warning signs and the actual szrs (CPs for me).  Like you, my szrs are not preceded by any smells or sounds.  I sure can't say if your sensations are part of an aura or you need to see a psych :) , but maybe hearing someone else's story might help.

Sometimes 24 hours before I get hit, I will wake up in the morning with a startled feel.  I'll be wide awake and feeling refreshed - unlike the normal, groggy , don't want to get out of bed feeling.

Sometimes 8-10 hours before szr time (they usually happen in the morning) when trying to fall asleep at night, I'll be just about to drift off when I'll wake very suddenly with that same startled feeling, but am able to get to sleep before long.

Attempting to reading shortly before szr time can be a weird thing.  I'll sit there trying to comprehend what I'm looking at (the text), but even if I keep moving my eyes over and over the text, it doesn't sink in.  It might as well be some language I don't know.  Throw in some feelings of deja-vu here and there, and that sums things up for me.

In my case, it's aggravating that it took me so long to put 2 & 2 (no pun intended) together and identify these "long term" warning signs, but on the bright side - they help me plan my day around the anticipated szrs.  I've always kept a journal tracking the date, time and characteristics of my szrs.  I didn't, however, note everyday happenings that may have helped me recognize these warning signs.

Good luck,

Like Chris, I agree that our seizures are very unique for each one of us.

My senses, like yours, always seem to go completely and utterly haywire,
but mine only start after I've had several tonic-clonic's (usually between
4-6) within a week or less.

I've heard the music of Coronation Street in a completely silent room
with the TV switched off, seen and played with a gigantic Mickey Mouse,
kissed gangs of boys whilst walking down the high road with my husband,
and asking for their autographs insisting they were actors, and I've also
lost my balance and co-ordination several times, where I couldn't walk
more than one or two steps without falling over.

I wonder whether you've suffered any of these after effects too, as I'd
just like to reassure you that you're certainly not a psycho, and just as
normal and individual as the rest of us on the planet!!!

Nowadays though, after acting like a complete and utter freak so many
times after several seizures in short spaces, I've simply come to terms
with the fact that people will always treat me like some kind of dummy for
a week or two later, or however long it takes before I'm back to normal,
but at least now I know my senses are just playing games with me again,
and I'm no loony, and I really don't think you are either.
