hi all. i'm new to the group, although i did belong ages ago. i have
petit mals, and the occasional (once every however many years) grand
mal seizure. the petit mals are pretty bad - happen all the time. as a
result of my having tried all the appropriate treatments, (barring
phenobarb & surgeries), with no luck, i have been without meds for
about three years now. it's odd, but even knowing i have the seizures,
(which i'd have on the meds anyway as none worked), it's freeing to be
able to be myself mentally. no side effects, no depression. i take
power drinks every day, and try to get enough sleep. i don't recommend
this to anyone else - it's just the way i have opted to deal with my
situation.

my question is this - would it be safe for me to ever get pregnant?
every time i look up information on pregnancy, it calls for control of
the seizures by low-dose meds. well, on low doses, i may as well not be
on meds at all. on high doses, i suffer horrendously from whatever side
effects.

if anyone knows any answers, i'd be grateful. many thanks

It's my understanding that seizures present absolutely no danger to the
fetus unless the mother stops breathing for any length of time and
deprives it of oxygen.  As a parent, obviously you'd arrange things so
that your baby wouldn't be in danger if you had a grand mal.
Go for it!

Howdy momma!

(Always wanted to be able to say that to somebody!)

First, I am not a doctor!

Second, I think that you are putting the emphisis on the wrong part of the
sentence...

IMO, the main thrust of the sentence is minimum drug levels in the
bloodstream and not seizure control.  Not having ANY drugs in the blood is
about as minimum as you can get.
