I was just reading all the posts on heat related seizures. jillian has
had 6 seizures just today. i am wondering if the increased number is
caused by the fact that our air conditioning unit went out and it is
very hot here. we have put a window unit in our room where she sleeps to
keep her cool tonight. i nver thout about the heat causing seizures, but
it does make sense. this group has been such help with info, thank you
so much

Becca,

Anything that is going to stress the body physically can lead to
seizures, is what our son's doctor explained to us.  A seizure is often
the first sign he is getting a cold, for example, and with girls,
periods can bring them on.  Our son was actually seizure-free between
the ages of six and eleven, but when he hit puberty and his hormones
started raging is when his seizures started up again.  So, anything
that upsets the status quo physically can push someone over their
seizure threshold if it is low enough, including being overheated and
dehydrated.   Be sure to keep Jillian as cool as possible, even if it
means taking her somewhere else for a while, like a mall or store, and
get her lots of liquids.  Repeated seizures can't be good for her.  You
might want to check with your doctor to see how many seizures a day is
too many seizures and whether you should relocate to someone cooler for
her safety.  You don't want her going into status.

Take care and try to stay cool,

Erk, I meant "somewhere" cooler, sorry! THis is what I get when I try
to write something while dashing out the door for lunch!

How did it go last night.   Did she have a better night with cooler room?
Also if she's perspiring a lot, she might need more juice or milk during
the day than when it's cooler outside?  to replace lost moisture from her
body.
There might be something on that under the Ep. Foundation site
http://efa.org   but I'm not sure what you'd search under?   Try
'overheating'  or 'dehydration' as search topics in the search window.  Also
see what they might have under 'childhood seizures'  while you're there.
If you have the Idaho website bookmarked too,  there could be something
there but I'm not sure what it would be under-- possibly the 'side effects'
links.  G./
