While doing a consult this morning, I came across some
information about increasing NK cells (natural killer cells) by using a
variety of medicinal mushrooms. It got me thinking as recently whenever my
daughter Tasya eats mushrooms (not medicinal ones, just the button type), it
seems that she has an increased likelihood of having a nocturnal seizure.
NK cells increase cytokine production which is pro-inflammatory which is
known to possibly cause seizures in susceptible individuals.

I've been working with a lab in Florida named Signet Diagnostics which has
developed a test called LEAP which measures cytokine and other
pro-inflammatory markers in blood by challenging the blood with 123 foods
and 27 food additives. They have had great success with migraine relief by
having people avoid the foods with the highest pro-inflammatory response
(that is the short version of the test). Since migraines are basically a
different manifestation of a seizure, it made me wonder. Tasya will be
taking the blood test next week and I'll post the results and see if it is
something that would help others out.

Apparently it's the other way around, all good. Cytokines are produced
by the brain during seizures to help control the seizure and minimize
damage. (That means fewer fried brain cells.) Check out this link;

The above is one continous line.
Here's the conclusion, verbatim:

"Conclusions: This study shows that limbic seizures in rodents rapidly
and reversibly induce proinflammatory cytokines in glia and suggests
that changes in the IL-1Ra/IL-1beta ratio in brain may represent an
effective physiopathologic mechanism to control seizures."

Eat more mushrooms if you want, even the "medicinal" ones, but I do
"medicinal" cactus myself. I'm post-op right-temporal
hippocampal, amydal, etc. sclerosis and I am having a blast.
