My neuro has just prescribed me Lamotrigine (the generic of Lamictal)
for my seizures since the Dilantin and Topiramate doesn't seem to be
working.
Has anyone had experience of knowledge of this Lamotrigine??
Thanks,

I don't know if I should comment - drug effects appear to be
individual... For me, Lamictal did very little good, but I drooled,
and other things I've forgotten made me stop using it. Topamax
destroyed my speech, but stopped the "jerks and jitters" (but
not the other stuff). Depakote had similar (but incomplete)
positive effects, without (I hope) the negatives (though speech
is still a mess). Dunno... See what works, with minimal side
effects, I guess. Watch out for a rash in the early days with
Lamictal, though - it can be dangerous. Look up Lamictal in
google for more...
Good luck.

I was  on epilim for tonic/clonic seizures with only a mod effect.I was then
started on lamictal in conjunction with the epilim and have not had seizures
for 2 years. I have no side effects to speak off other than weight gain
(epilim!).

Hope your experince is as god as mine.

Been on it now for about 10 years.  I have JME and it has finally
worked real well, but that might have something to do with the
Rivotril that I take along with.

I was put on it twice coz the neuro who first prescribed it gave me
too high a dose for starting a new drug.  I got real sick and had
practically all the side effects on the box.  I changed neuros after
weening myself off the stuff and waiting for an emergency appointment
(2 weeks!)  The new one put me on a low dose and built it up slowly.
I now take 500mg a day which is quite high but my life is going pretty
well right now and I'm not going to change anything even though I get
a few side effects (nausea mostly) and not 100% seizure control.

At least my brain works a little.  I have got my grades from my first
semester at college and I averaged a B+ so I feel quite good about it
(though being a perfectionist I am never happy).

Hope this helps.
