My Dream

My dream is to become a photographer. To live off taking photographs.
It's a dream that I cannot persue in earnest. Because I can't drive.
It's something many of my friends cannot understand. They believe that I
can be a photographer without driving, without having a car. But it's
not possible. I know I could possibly work out of a studio, but to make
a living out of it, I'd have to go places and I can't do that without a
car or a license.
I've never before been angry that I wasn't allowed to drive. I didn't
even get a license when I turned 18 (the legal age for driving in
Denmark) and I hadn't been diagnosed yet. I've never missed having a
car. Until now. Now that I've realised what my dream is, it can't be
obtained. Pretty much no matter what I do.
It make me angry and it makes me sad, but what really bothers me is my
friends telling me I have talent and could make a living of photography,
when I know that the one obstacle that stands in my way cannot be passed
before my seizures are controlled.

Hi Charlie, I like photography too.  My husband works for the Secretary of
State and they are using some of my photographs in a document they will be
creating.  I have given them permission to use the images.  I took
photographs of the state capitol inside and out.

I have so much fun taking pictures.  I can drive, but most of the time I
have been out taking pictures my husband comes with me, so he does the
driving.  Maybe you can pursue your dream along with the help of your family
and friends.  Instead of having expectations that you can do this as a
living, can you adjust your dream to find ways to explore the
possibilities.  Maybe some research on marketing your photography.

Take care,
Julie

Beautiful photographs. Mine mine are here:

And thank you for your advise. I'm already pretty certain that doing
this for a living won't be possible, but it doesn't stop me from
shooting whenever I can. My problem is that the few friends I have don't
have cars either. The positive thing, though, is that I live in a place
that have super public transports, so I can get almost anywhere to take
those pictures. Unfortunately, that doesn't work if I had to do it
professionally. :(

I do keep hope alive that I might be able to sell some photographs
sometime, but so far it hasn't happened a lot (I have sold a few via
DeviantArt).

Thanks,

Charlie

I don't even know what to say if someone wanted to buy a picture - how much to
charge or if I would just give them a jpg or have it printed professionally and
framed.  I really like your photography.  What kind of camera do you use?

I saw an image of a fireman on your site.  I have an idea.  Have you thought of
offering your service to the firemen in your community (explain that you have a
seizure disorder and want to follow your dream), with your photography of the
firemen at work, etc. they could create a calendar for sale.  Even if you offered
to donate your service your name would be credited for the photography.

Take care,
Julie
