Charly - Do you happen to know anything about the minimed/medicare
program for over 65 where medicare rents the pump for the patients use
for 15 months afterwhich the user is given the option to buy or rent?
I have been using a 508 for 10 months and must make the decision to buy
or continue to rent.  They tell me nothing about what costs are involved
and their offices are closed til Monday. I have no idea what it will
cost me and the idea of plunking  5 grand out for the thing is scary.
Any info on this would be most helpful.

Sincerely,
Richard Price

Do you mean that you are already on Medicare and this is new???? ( see my
reply to your first message in which I presumed you were just becoming
eligible for Medicare). If so, I need to know about this too.

I'm not new to medicare as I have been on it for about 11 years.  I got the
pump 10 months ago on a rental  agreement which I have never seen and lasts 13
months.  I was informed yesterday that I must elect the option of continued
renting or purchase the 508 pump. I have no understanding of what it will cost
if I elect to purchase or to continue to rent. On the option to continue to
rent, they will pay another 5 mos rent but after that I don't know what they
want.  Also I don't know about supplies for it.  If it would help I would be
happy to email copies of what they gave me for Christmas.

Thank you very much for your help on this,
Richard Price

No, I am not new with the pump.  I have had ( The Pump} it for 10 months and
have just received a letter from minimed with a choice of taking over
ownership or continuing rental. Their letter confused me and I thought they
were telling me that I had to either personally buy and pay for the pump or
start personally paying rent on it. I am age 76 have been on medicaire for 11
years. Also, I saw your second message and replied to it prior seeing the
first one that you sent.  About my insulin, I get it from the VA.

I am glad to know that when the time comes(my 4 year pump warranty is up in
May) that they will rent one. Thanks for clearing that up.

I suggest you contact your congressman's office and tell them the
same story.   Their job is to represent you and they have the clout
to get action.   Most have a staff in the districts to handle matters
like this.  You must understand the vendors is selling and very
good at selling.   Most have no use for you when they get their
money.  This is one instance where pork barrel politics useful.

I learned the hard way that vendors are beautiful con artists.
Medicare is a mass of rules that  they follow.  It may not work well
for you.

One place where your vote may count.[
